I think the real issue here is going to be to find something that will go onto his forend. If they make a mount that will attach to that, you've got 90% of your issue solved. What is the brand name of your forend Magi? If we start there, maybe we can work it forward to the light..
Too bad he doesn't have the front site A frame. I'd have just the thing.
I HAVE used the "bolt to your hand-guards" rails and they SOUND rough but are actually pretty easy to install and very sturdy. I used them until I finally got my railed forend.
If we can find him a rail system, that mount you showed a couple posts back is actually nice for a light as long as the head of the light isn't too big. With our rifles, it's hard to mount a light with a big flange far enough back so you can use your thumb "effectively" when turning it on and off which is why I also prefer the lights I mentioned but with the pressure switch. The switch is big but is actually pretty robust and comes with it's own sticky backing which is REALLY sticky and holds like crazy. It also has little screws with it which are nice as well.
Do you know of a "non-invasive" rail system for those hand-guards? If they are small and can place the light into an easy on/off location, that might be the way to go...
I'd try to see if a scope ring will fit the flashlight. I'm going to guess it's bigger than one inch dia. so I'd start with a generic 30mm and see what happens. Might even be able to ream out the ring to fit.
There are some that will bolt the rail into the slots but as you mentioned, positioning for use may be tricky. I noticed the MountsPlus site had several heights available so standoff shouldn't be an issue.
I actually have 3 or 4 of that "style" of mounts around that JT linked in. They are much more rugged than they look and also stay on well and stand up well to punishment with a little low strength locktite...
It's going to be a simple matter of distance out. Too far out and you have to reach OUT with your thumb which reduces your hold on the rifle. Too close and the head of the light might touch the rail which could affect the aimpoint of the light.
That one'll be up to Magi. It's kind of an eye-ball, best guess kinda shot and just hope for the best. Either way, it should be a darn close fit in the mid to low range heights. He's got a pretty slim light there.

I actually HATE having to use my thumb. In tight areas, when you're adrenaline is going, there is nothing worse than having to loosen your grip on your primary defensive tool to do the on/off thing and just turning it on and leaving it on gives away where you are and what you are doing.
I know some guys swear buy em but if he can find a pressure switch that will go with that light, I would buy one just to do some testing to see what fit his style the best.
Streamlights are TOUGH to find switches for though which is why I was so happy to find a switch that worked with mine...
