BUIS Question for AR-10 Super SASS

I am looking for tritium front and rear sights for an AR-10 Super SASS. I have found several rear sights, but the only tritium front sight I have found is a for a dovetail rail and not picatinny. I bought the rifle on gunbroker.com but it has not shipped yet so I can't check the rifle to see what is going on at the forward end of the rifle, but is there some reason for the lack of tritium front sights available for the picatinny rail system? Can anyone suggest a good set of BUIS with or without tritium? I will eventually get a good scope but it will have to wait a few months. I am a new AR owner and appreciate all the education I can get. Thanks for any and all comments.

Log on to the Armalite site. They sell MI (Midwest Industries) BUIS. Be sure to get the proper front sight for an AR-10 and not AR-15 (different height). Troy Industries also makes a super nice BUIS for the AR-10. There are others also. All the good ones are pricey. Check some of the vendors who advertise on this site!

I am also going to purchase a BUIS set.

Thanks for the information. I checked the MI sights on Armalite, and the Troy sights. I can't tell on the MI photos, but the Troy sights look like they have removable front sight inserts. I found some tritium front sight inserts at XSsights.com. Can I replace the non-tritium inserts with the xssights inserts? If so, can I do the work myself or do I need a gunsmith to do the work for me?

I'd send these guys a note: www.midwestindustriesinc.com/
They answered my question quickly about co-witnessing of the MI sights with the EOTech (they said they shoud). I'd be interested to hear what they answer.

Please excuse my ignorance. I have toted AR's, or really, M16's, around the world up to 1988. I recently fell into a deal and acquired an AR-10 carbine in a trade. It has no sights, just the Picatinny rail.

What the heck is BUIS?

BUIS is an acronym I learned only recently from reading the forums on several rifle-related sites. It means iron back-up sights. :o)

Back Up Iron Sight. BUIS

They are really nice to have along with a scope. They fold down out of the way and are ready to go if a scope fails, etc.
