I just bought a YHM Phantom brake for my AR-10. The thread pattern on my barrel is finer than the YHM, does anyone have any advice on rectifying this issue?
YHM makes quite a variety of brakes in the Phantom series! if purchased for the .308 7.62 the thread size should be the same 5/8"-24 TPI otherwise it may be a factory mistake! Forgot to check but could also be metric or left handed. I would check the I.D of the bore and make sure you didn't get a brake for the .223 that would be a 1/2"-28 TPI If you don't have the proper tools (micrometer thread guage calipers) to check find a gun smith or machine shop, and I'm sure someone there could check it for you. The easiest way might be just to return it Really hard to tell with little info :pinch:
YHM-3080-5C1...... I'm pretty sure this is the correct part for a factory rifle. However, the barrel has been modified by the previous owner (gun show purchase). I called armalite, and they confirmed that this gun originally had a 24" barrel. It has since been cut down to 20".
Well starting to get a little clearer now, did a search and did not find that part# on there site YHM-3080-5C2 is the new .308 #? and if your barrel has been cut and threaded again, you will have to check with a caliper! what's the O.D. of the thread measure on the barrel? If it's 5/8" or .625 then then 5/8-24 thread if it's (FAL) 9/16 or .562 Diameter the 9/16-24 or 1/2" .500 then should be the finer thread 1/2-28 these would be standard, again my friend hard to tell without all the info the more the better! We could also through in the metric 14-1.0mm left hand. Do some measuring and then we can make a decision on how to handle the issue
I am unfamiliar with how to identify thread diameter, count, pitch, or anything else related. What sort of caliper will I need? Do i measure from the thread groove, or land? If you could tell me what you need to see to help, I can do my best to take some pictures. Thank you for your assistance

This is a inexpensive set.
You would need to measure the outside diameter of the threads on the barrel.
This will tell us the Major Diameter 1/2"=.500 9/16"=.562 5/8"=.625
A ruler or metal scale (ruler) or Caliper can be used to measure TPI or Threads per inch.
Count the land of the threads in 1 inch 24-28 ect. to determine TPI
This will determine thread size: 5/8"-24 ect.
Pictures really won't help at this time.
If your in a hurry take it to any local gun smith or machine shop and I'm sure they would be more than willing to help determine the size for you!
Yep, looks like you should have the right one if everything was original
