I'm working on selecting a handgaurd to that I can mought sights on. I have read that a concern is that if the handgaurds take a beating, the sights can lose zero. As far as free floating barrels Daniel Defense and Larue are said to make very solid ones that are not prone to moving, and while I'd love to do that, $300+ installation is more money than I'd like to spend. Would the Alostyr Aluminum handgaurd on Armalite's website (

) be solid enough to be trusted to hold zero?
This is the same type of forend that came with my AR10A4. Please note that it is a drop in replacement and does NOT free float the barrel. The two rail halves are secured by the slip ring and six screws (three to a side.) It's a very sturdy mount - mine was a bitch to remove - and if you wished to mount a front sight on it, I don't think it would give you any problems. And if you're going to put iron sights on an AR10, that's where I'd put it so I could take advantage of the gi-normous selection of AR15 sights.
Thanks, I understood that they are not free float. I intend to mount he diamond head sights on it and I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a free float grip on top of expensive sights.
Another quick question, do you all think losing amount of sight radius by moving the sight back from the gas block to the handgaurd would have real noticeable negative effect?
My opinion? No. You're only losing 1 or 2 inches of sight radius. Unless your last name is Hathcock or York, I don't think it'll have much of an impact on your shooting.
