I have a new armalite AR10T 16 in barrel. This is my first Armalite and my first .308. I have already completed the barrel break in process and thats it. I'm waiting for the iron and contemplating what to top it off with optics wise. Wont happen for awhile, but who has one of these carbine versions and what sort of ammunition and accuracy pairs work best and at various ranges? I know every rifle is different, but I was just curious. Also folks seem to have all sorts of equipment for checking barrels and chambers, velocities and pressures, etc. What sorts of these things would be necessary to acquire over time. I am new to shooting longer ranges and longer ranged scopes other than an ACOG. Guess im just looking for insight on this particular system and how others run them. Me.....SHTF, hunting and learning just how accurate I can place lead down range. Thanks for any advice and information.
I'm primarily into tactical marksmanship and run an eotech 552 (which I had prior to the Ar10tcb and a genII eotech fts 3X magnifier. I think what I really want is a ta11e from trijicon, but haven't been able to justify the expense. Its a laser to the 200 yards of the ranges I've shot on. Looking forward to getting to a longer range to see how far I can accurately push that combo. Been using surplus australian L2A2 and some british aerospace surplus.
Well you are dealing with a 16" barrel to start...even a T is only going to give you 5 to 700 yards at best....Mine is a standard light barrel and I can do pretty good at 400, hit the target anyway...no 1" groups...as for the ammo...I run Hornady for the most part...that is what I broke mine in with...500 rounds worth, and some UltraMax as well..I use the 168gr for the most part...Tap, Amax, and BTHP as well...as for optics..I have a Mark 2 6x18x40 mil dot with an AO..it suffices but if you really want to get out there I would look into a 8x25x50 of some make and model....DON'T GO CHEAP...trust me on that...
As for all the other gizmos and gadgets...well I don't have any so...can't really say...I need to get me a Chrono one these days to measure my Reloads...but hey...all in time...
Hope it helps...
