Hello everyone. I am new to the AR-10 platform and have been doing a lot of research to build my first AR-10. After reading a lot on this forum and visiting a couple of shops I am about ready to pull the trigger.
Here is a proposed build that I was hoping to get some honest input on. It is from a local shop that has pretty much all the parts instock. As we were going through the parts list he kinda ball parked figures on a post it note but we came up with the same final price.
There are a couple variations that I was considering:
JD Machine Tech or Mega Arms matched upper and lower
I was hoping to find a handrail that is long enough to cover the gas block. The Daniel Defense is 12” which fits up to the gb. Samson makes one that is 13.2” which should do the trick but I am not familiar with them.
Any thought to the type of comp/brake/flash hider? Or is the threading for the addition of a supressor? PWS makes a good comp/brake as does BattleComp.

I figured go ahead and have that done now before the rifle is assembled. I am researching comp/brake options but am more focused on the main parts at this time.
I also read that you were considering an MA-Ten upper and lower. IIRC, those are in the KAC/DPMS pattern; I don't know if that makes a difference to you or not.

After even more research, I think I am going with the MA-TEN Monolithic Quad-rail Upper. Really like the clean look and the matched set with the charging handle etc...
According to their website you can use either DPMS or Armalite barrels with the provided nut. Thanks for the input LebbenB.
Do yourself a favor and don't rush into doing your build. Their are several web sites out their tbat are willing to assist you in your search for all your AR-10 parts. Check out Rainier Arms. The guys their are really cool and will assist you with purchasing parts and even the installation if you run into any problems. Talk to Mike or John. They will both help you anytime you need it. Another good place to check is Iron Ridge Arms. The guys their are cool also and will assist you when they can. I have purchased several parts from both and they both carry excellent products. If I can assist you in anyway further feel free to drop an email. I'll do what I can to help. Just reached the half way point with my .338 Federal build. Using a Mega-Ma Ten upper and lower for this build. Their awesome receivers (set). Be patient, later.
If you end up staying with the Armalite pattern, check out the Superior Weapons System 15" hand guard.

Also, look at the American Trigger SR Gold trigger. I have one and it's awesome!

+1 on the SWS rails, best available IMHO. If you go with the ArmaLite pattern look at the ArmaLite LPK's with the NM triggers. Great trigger at a good price.
