200-240 FPS is the accepted figure, yes. And you are correct that with a match type bullet you can mitigate the loss of MV with a higher BC.
I decided that a carbine was best for my Armalite foray, too. It's a good GP rifle, certainly more accurate than Armalite's stated 2 MOA. Down the road, I'm looking at picking up a Noveske 21" N6 upper receiver and mating it up with a killer piece of glass. Sort of a poor man's REPR, if you will.
You mentioned a bipod. Do be careful on how tight you mount it to the lower handguard. Weight and pressure on the lower hand guard impinges on the handguard collar. This puts additional pressure on the barrel itself and may affect the barrel harmonics. This can result in a shift in POI.
