Can someone please tell me(from direct experience) when adding a free floating handguard to 16in. barrel, how much does it improve accuracy? Does it go from a 1 MOA to a 3/4 MOA?

Well I don't have a FF, but I can tell you that a FF is only really going to aid you more on long shots then short range...i have read several articles to that effect by the pros...so that is why I don't have one as of yet...I shoot 400 yards out with mine...and I hit what I aim at...well most of the time...
Remember you are talking a 16" standard barrel...over a T or Bull..which are designed for accuracy....save the money and put into your optics...or ammo...or other "blings"...LOL

Before I go into and try to answer your question, I have a few first...

What type of rifle is it?
What type of barrel is on it?
What it the intended purpose of this rifle?
What is your end result that you are trying to achieve?

Giveing me some idea of what you want will help me better answer your question to see if it will help.

I appreciate informed advice. The information you requested:

-AR-10 A4
-Standard Armalite 16 inch bbl.
-Boar/ deer hunting in Texas (intended distance 25 to 400 yd)
-At least 1 MOA

I am trying to keep weight down, because with a Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm LR/T M2 Illum. Reticle on top it is already weighing in close to 10 pounds.

If I may...AR-10 with a 16" barrel is a A4 C...Carbine.
25 to 400 yards...is what I shoot...and I have brought down less than a Half inch with a Drop in Railed hand guard....if you are hunting and not competing, you won't need the FF...but that is up to you.....
There are other options out there if you are interested...with out having to take apart your rifle...to install it that will work just as good...
Just thought I would throw that out there...

ArmaLite advertises the 10A4CBF to be a 2 to 2.5 MOA rifle. Now I know they over exagerate the MOA and this is why...

They don't know what your qualifications may be,
They don't know what ammo you might be useing,
They don't know how or what way you care for your rifle,
and there are a lot of other variables in there that I haven't listed too.

Basicaly what it boils down to, is that your rifle is capable of shooting what ever your trained or capable of doing.

With the proper combination of ammo, rifle, and shooter, you can achieve almost anything.

But if you are looking for something on the lines of what you described, I would recomend a 10TCBNF. That right there is what you describe and everything that you are looking for.

I agree, a lot depends on the person behind the trigger, how clean the rifle is and the quality of ammo. The AR10A4CBF is advertised to shoot 2 to 2.5 MOA, but I have shot mine at 1 MOA with a cool barrel. When shooting without letting the barrel cool down it will shot 1.5 ro 2.0 MOA. I find that it really likes the Hornady 168 gr. TAP.

The reason for my posting was to see if the FF barrel would actually decrease the group and if so how much 1/4 MOA? Is it worth it or not to pay the money or should I just be pleased with the platform I have set up now. It is really hard because I am always comparing the AR10A4CBF with its big brother the SASS. I love my SASS, but at 15 pounds it is too heavy to carry all day on a hunt.

I have asked Armalite if they would beed blast or change the finish of AR10TCBNF, because I don't like stainless steel when hunting dangerous animals. I have been told by good old hunters that shiny metal it is like a flashlight in the woods.

The option is to have my current standard 16 inch barrel as is, have a FF handguard mounted or purchase a new upper with a heavy barrel/and FF like the AR10TCBNF. Another option is the Noveske N6 upper with 16 inch bbl. I don't know if it is worth it for 1/4 group smaller and all the extra weight.

In regards to cleaning, I baby my rifles so they are clean, well lubricated and operate perfectly.

I am quite stoked :woohoo: because I just returned from the range shooting 600 yd with my SASS. It was so cool to easily put 4 rounds in a 5 inch group on a steel 8 inch plate. That sound of the distant "teeeening" makes smile! B)
