Armalite AR-10 misfiring (not cocking)

I bought a used (Eagle) AR-10 .308... When I bought the gun is had a real sweet trigger - nice crisp with no creep. I shot it a couple times then it wouldn't shoot - had to cock it with the charging handle. That happened 4 or 5 times.

Okay, time for a good cleaning. I cleaned... oiled a bit... and put it back together. Looking down in the lower at the trigger there's a screw just behind where the sear is - I didn't mess with it, but I did oil the sear. NOW the trigger has an amount of creep that I(you) would expect in a stock trigger.

I haven't fired it yet to see if it's fixed, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with such happenings. I fully expect this battle rifle to go off EVERY TIME I pull the trigger. It's a nice rifle and all, but I'm right on the edge of turning it into an R-25.

Anyone ever run into this situation??

Given what you describe...I am not sure, how old is it...do you know, might check with Uncle A to see if he can find out by serial # when it was made.....that would help...
Is it taking the gen l mags or does it have the gen ll...The trigger sounds like an after market...the stock AR-10 trigger has "no" screw in it....that I can see...I honestly don't know alot about the EA brand...but I am sure we can find out what is the issue...one thing to also consider is sending in to ArmaLite and have them take a look at it...the Trigger might be the issue...sometime you just have to let the "Pros" do their magic....
And don't be hasty about the R-25....
When you buy something used...you may find more than you know...I know of a young man who bought a "used" AR-15 that had built, well he got the shaft on the deal...and had to basically re-build it again...now it works great....Point being, if someone installed or had installed a new trigger and screwed it up....that maybe why they sold it...not sure on your details about buying it....so I mean no offense to whom ever you got it from....
Be patient and figure out what is the problem...you might end up with a "jewel" of a rifle...

Like BMS said, I have never known an "ArmaLite" or "Eagle Arms" trigger to come with a screw in it.

So I'm thinking it's an aftermarket trigger installed in the rifle.

No worries though, replacing a trigger is easy and can be done in 20 minutes taking your time.

Look at some of the after market triggers and see if you can identify the one you have. It just may be an adjustment issue.

The not cocking issue may be trigger related or buffer/spring related.

I had something like this happen to me ?
I had a winchester primer blow out and it fell down into the trigger area.
The weapon fired 2 or 3 more time, then the trigger/hammer mech. stopped working ?
I did the same as you, I looked and oiled and adjusted, and no luck ?
I finally took the hammer/trigger/safty out of the weapon and found a chewed up primer in their.
I reinstalled the trigger and it works great.
So, I would take the trigger out and look for some trash that might have gotten down in there, lube/reinstall per the instructions and see what happens ?
Good Luck.
