Jumping in to the AR-10 world was created by Shooter Jon
Hey just joined the site. I am looking a buying a Ar-10 and cant figure out which one. I know this is a broad question but this is what i am looking for. Something around 22 inch barrel give or take. shooting out too 600 yards or maybe a little more might run it in the heavy metal of some three guns too though. I have an ar-15 from dpms that is awesome thinking about one of those. thoughts? Thanks for any input.

I'm new to the forum here also... I'm ready to jump into the AR 10 world - mainly because of the .308. But I wouldn't know one model from the next.

I want an AR 10 in .308(7.62x51)... I want a flat top... 20" barrel(recommendations?) It will be scoped... We hunt woods and fields - shots 300 yds max - lots of running shots - there's always a 200 yd shot available. AND it's got to have a great trigger.

Model number recommendations??

There are a lot of choices out there. It depends more on your pocket book. At the low end the DPMS has several models and configurations to choose form. You can go to the web sit and check them out. Or POS at the high end, but you will find a bunch of others that may have what you are looking for.

My self I went with the plane Jane DPMS LR-308 with a 24 inch bull barrel. I am satisfied with my choice, it will shoot 1 inch or less at 200 yds if I feed it what it likes. At the range I've see guys with a POS and some with AR-10s they all seem happy also. I'm sure what ever you chose you'll fall in love with the gun. Good luck on you search.

Welcome to both of you....Shooter Jon and Diamondshoals, as to your questions on a .308 rifle...Al Mack is correct...there are several choices out there...of course I will try to sway you to our side of the Force...ArmaLite...
First off, cost is going to be your ally and enemy....depending on how you look at it... :dry:
Jon...a 20" barrel is all that ArmaLite offers in the AR-10 to my knowledge...but that should be sufficient for what you describe.
I would say for you look at the "T" or "Nation Match" to achieve those distances....

Diamond...for what you are describing I would suggest the A4 or A4C
The reasons I suggest the Carbine...is you said about woods...and only 300 yards...I have taken mine AR-10 A4 CB out to 400 yards and did pretty good...I need a better scope... :dry: The A4 has a standard 20" barrel and if fairly easy to equip...

Personally I want to get a SASS upper for my Lower...but that is another topic in itself...
