I know you guys are die hard Armalite but what would be your second choice. Im looking at the Armalite target because I want the best possible accuracy but Im also looking at the Rock River LAR-8 Predator HP or Varmint. My uncle has the predator and it is a tack driver. My other concern with the Armalite is mag cost. I just want to make sure that since Im spending this much money for a gun that Im getting the best for my money. This will be my go to rifle if the shi! hits the fan and I will be also mounting my night vision on it for pigs.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
I even have my best precision rifle for sale to fund the purchase.

I've been looking & researching for a while too. Have checked out a few sites & haven't really made up my mind yet. Am looking for one with a 18-20 inch barrel, as I believe that a 16 inch barrel won't be as accurate at much longer distances. I'm sure everybody and their brother has different opinions about barrel lengths/accuracy, but that's the direction I'm headed in...

I use a Windham MPC 15 and am very happy with it; they are the original BMaster folks, who are now back in business. I found out that they are coming out with a .308 either late this year or early in 2013. Just recently I read an article, where Windham Weaponry & POF (Patriot Ordnance factory)are participating in a joint venture of AR .308 platform. If you can wait, I would suggest you take a look a them,as my MPC is well built and shoots real well, with the Vortex Dot on it...

I'm sure that you have already looked at a bunch of models too. In the end, it's what feels good in your hands & what you can afford to spend...

Me,I want to wait & see what Windham put out, unless a great buy comes along... Best of luck with your search...

My second choice would be a ruger scout. or the sig 716. But I went with my first choice and got the AR-10.

The magazine issue is over rated unless your going to stockpile a a couple hundred. The Armalite mags are built rock solid and they even have a newer AR-10 that uses P-mags so there is no more reasons to avoid the best.

When I was shopping for my 1st modern .308 I strongly considered an FNAR. The deal breaker was that FNH doesn't specify the accuracy of the rifle, and Armalite does.

If I were to consider any other rifle it would be a Remington M700 SPS Tactical, and it's quite likely that I'm going to give myself one for Christmas because, sad to say, we don't own a bolt centerfire at all, and it would be good for training (they're also light and sub MOA accurate, and talk about your basic run-on sentence! Oh well... ;).

I would not let the magazine cost influence the decision. The gen II mags are awesome and not expensive when you inspect the product closely. You sometimes get what you pay for
