I hope that I'm posting in the right thread. I'm a newbie on putting together an AR 10 and I'm having a probem. I just purchased an Armalite AR 10 A2 upper with no forward assist. I now know that it is an older style upper. The issue I am having is that I purchased lower group assembly parts kit and the hammer is too wide for the BCG. I understand that at one time Armalite used a narrower hammer. Is a narrow hammer available or will I have to buy a whole new BCG? The person I talked to at Armalite didn't know if the hammer they now carry would fit my BCG. Any guidance would be appreciated.
I've been curios to hear what the pros say, surprised no one replied yet, seems like I read something about it once but couldn't find it. Did you try an email to Armalite? I've had good results that way when I wasn't in a hurry, got me a call with somebody that could help anyway. I've found them to be very customer service oriented in my dealings.
I finally did hear from Armalite in a forum response. Turns out that they have a hammer that they say will fit my BCG. It looks like I bought one of their older lower parts kits from a vendor, which had the wide hammer. According to Tim at Armalite, they have since gone to a narrower hammer to accomodate both the wide slot and narrow slot BCGs. Funny, I was just about to drop a couple of hundred dollars on a Jard trigger, which has a narrow hammer, and then the response came through. $30 plus shipping for the Armalite hammer. Hope it works. Thanks for the inquiry. Take care.
