I bought a Armalite AR-10 a couple of weeks ago. It has a carrying handle on it and I want a flat top. The question is what upper recievers fit on a armalite lower? Second question is where can I get a upper reciever that will work for a good price? Then the third question is it hard to change out recievers or should I get a gunsmith to do it and how much should a gun Smith cost.
Armalite has uppers on sale 199.00 which aint bad. That is, if you are wanting to transfer your upper parts over to it.
Armalite
You will need some tools to make it happen and this will add to the cost, but good tools can serve you well into the future. The main equipment you'll be needing is upper receiver vice block, barrel nut wrench that can be used with a breaker bar, & a bench vice to hold the upper in the blocks. Armalite has in my experience, employed a hydraulic gorilla to install barrel nuts, I've never had one break loose without a good heave. You can do it on your own with fairly basic skills, it's up to you if it is a task you can handle.
If you don't feel up to it, my best suggestion is consider selling your upper. The money you get from that + the 199 & tool cost should be enough to get you where you want to be, maybe even a little left over. You also have the option of trading complete uppers with someone that may have what you want, give or take a little cash.
Browse around to find the configuration you want and what it will cost, then find what your upper is selling for to know the difference you'll need to make.
I am also looking to upgrade my barrel any good suggestions? I want something accurate up to 400 or 500 yards. I don't know what its called but I want a barrel that the gas block is pretty much at the end of the barrel so the hand gaurd covers the whole barrel. Thanks for any help. Something like the pic I added.
