I am going to buy an armalite 308 and was wondering if I do buy that gun and buy another upper from a different manufacture in a 6.5 creedmore if it would fit? I am new to these guns so I am trying to learn what can before I do buy anything.
You got a lot of research to do. There is a lot of confusing things to wrap your mind around in *just* the "308" AR rifles, let alone the things that will and will not be interchangable between the intermediate cartridge family of AR's (AR15's, .223/5.56, 6.5 Cred., 6.8 SPC, 300 Blackout, etc.). The short and simple answer to your question, NO. 6.5 Cred. are built in the AR15 platform, a sized down little sister to the Original AR... the AR10. Some parts are interchangeable but this is a very complicated subject matter, for the most part all the AR10 sized AR's are bigger, but are functionally identical to their little sisters. However, Armalite AR10's have several improvements over their "Stoner SR25" family (DPMS is what is said to be this family's prime example) including something Stoner himself warned needed to be fixed before offering the AR15 platform to civilians... a spring loaded firing pin to reduce primer ding and risk of "slam fires"... and this as well as several other flaws were passed along to the Stoner based designs that evolved in 308 Win./7.62 NATO by other companies. Armalite took their own original designs Stoner primarily developed and scrapped them, started from scratch pretty much, when the current Armalite was created to ressurect the mostly abandoned AR10 platform. Anyway, I could go on and on and it would start looking like a wikipedia page. I suggest a good reading of the wikipedia page on the history of the AR10. Then, both here and on AR15.com you can find most every question you could ever think to ask already answered in the forum archives, and particularly the AR15.com's FAQ super-post will really get into some of the considerations you now have about part interchangability. Good luck on your journey.
Thanks for the info and I will look at that site. As far as the 6.5 creedmore I was told it was a 308 cartage necked down to a 6.5 bullet. I will have to look more into that . Also if do you guys think for a armalite 308 a price tag $1440 is a good price.
I read real quick on the Creedmore, and it can be done in an AR10 with pretty much just a barrel and magazine change. But it's primarily an ar15 cartridge.
