Hello all, I'm thinking of picking up a AR-15 for the wife (ya Right) anyway I only at present have a few choices at hand. Edge and I talked about this at one time, unfortunately the choices discussed are not an option, SR-15, STEALTH-LT-15 and of course ArmaLite M-15 and one or two others in the upper dollar range.
The ones I have at hand to choose from are, Smith M&P, RRA, Bushmaster, and DPMS (don't think so). So I am looking at the first three. I have read quite abit on each one, and would just like to hear some other facts and opinions before I make my decisions.
If things work out right I'll be trading off a Winchester model 12, 16ga. for it and then some.

I have a rock river arms lower and it is great. No play at all with the upper. Another one to consider would be Stag Arms I have had good luck with them also. I hope this helps.
ruger is actually making an AR type rifle now. It is in 5.56 and has the gas piston system.(i guess that could lead to problems but i don't no). I just got a rra entry tactical a couple of weeks ago and it is pretty sweet, shoots good(not as good as my AR10t though). Rugers new gun is on there website though.
I have looked into the ruger, it's pretty cool looking and ruger makes quality gun, at least the one's I've shot.
Unfortunately it isn't one of the choices I have to pick from, otherwise I would consider it.
That's one for RRA, thanks.

Of the three, it would be hard to beat a S&W or RRA. Ten years ago I would have suggested Bushmaster, but I don't think they've kept up with S&W or RRA on quality and components lately. You'd still get a good rifle from Bushy, but you'd get better and more from S&W or RRA.
With my rra there is very little play, and with surplus ammo it gets sub-moa accuracy(if i do my part). and it just feels good and well balanced. my buddy has a bushy (the 30th anniv. model) and his is not nearly as accurate as mine(about 2 moa), but it has very little play to. not to mention i like the trigger on my rra way better. i just got a 6.8 spc upper for and i can't wait to take it out and see how good it does. if it were me i would go with the rra. thats just me though.
Well that's two for RRA and one for Smith.
Knew you would give RRA a vote (chuckle). I looked at the Bsh Mstr again, it's an A-2, so I'm ruling that one out.
I did find out that all three are compatible with the MI equipment, so that's a plus. I like their stuff, good and affordable.
So, any Specs on the RRA's .223s that you have. Donkey says sub MOA, even so, it is for the wife to shoot (me too) and CQB purposes, home defense, wouldn't want to let off the 10 in the house unless I had to,(chuckle)I like my hearing (chuckle, chuckle).

The nice thing about RRA, is they list what accuracy level each of their rifles are "guaranteed" to shoot, on their website. My experience has been that you can do a lot better than what they list.
What do you want in this rifle? Accuracy or practicality? For strictly home defence, an M4 clone would work great. If you'd like a little be of both, look at one of their heavy barreled stainless models.
I am planning on ordering a Rock River lower stripped and the assembly kit with the 2-stage trigger. Any suggestions? I am going for serious accuracy, any suggestions on upper recievers? Good brands? Things to avoid? Id like a 556 or Wylde chamber I would assume for accuracy.
