I was injured in Vietnam in combat right after I got there. I got patched up, healed up and went on to stay 14 mo there, 67-68. The Army would not do anything more for me and told me to go see the VA when I got out. I did, spent 2 weeks in the hospital and 4 ½ hrs on the operating table. This took place in the summer of '69, even back then there was a wait.
Since then I have been in and out of the VA system. Here is my take after all these years:
Lots of good people there, Docs, nurses and other caregivers. They are sincere and want to help you.
Then there is the VA system, BROKE RICHARD, FUBAR, a 1960's system trying to operate in the 21st century, lots of these people that are in the system, frankly, they don't give a damn.
Were I the POTUS I would do one of two things:
1) Put all veterans in the same healthcare system the govt workers have
2) Completely redo the entire system and modernize it on par with the Mayo clinic system (which I used for many years)
What is gonna happen? Most likely nothing. Obama has not said a word, why would he, were it left up to him he would pour gasoline on all vets and light up on fire...but nothing will change.
You're right, the system has been messed up for years, decades in fact. Like most government agencies it is FUBAR! What they are all squawking about now is just election year politics,
grandstanding SOB's :censored: :banghead: :censored: :banghead: :banghead: :censored:
I too am a VN vet but I was lucky enough to never have needed the VA but know of others who have. I don't have a good opinion based on their comments. I think you have a great idea Cowboy, but putting the vets on the same healthcare system as government employees would make the VA Hospital system irrelevant. It would no longer be needed. Perhaps that is not a bad idea.
I think that if previous president had known about these lists and did nothing to stop it, they, along with o-boy should all be jailed, without bail, and, charged for murder in the first degree, along with any administrators and also the ones building the lists.
The minute someone had suggested, or told someone to start the list, that person should have blown the whistle right then and there.
That would have put a stop to that, right then and there.
Personally, I think this is one of o-boys babies.
I had always wondered about that VA hospital in Denver, it seemed like a person went into that facility and never came out, except for in a casket.
