I saw a great video on YouTube a few weeks back that showed the difference between .223 and 300 Blackout on various targets. Where a .223 would destroy the target -- often passing completely through things like concrete block -- the 300 Blackout was only doing minimal damage.
One attribution was to the barrel length. For the 300 Blackout the barrel was only 14.5". When they duplicated the test with an 18" barrel the results were better but still not up to par with the .223.
