Purchased this Springfield M1 Garand in .308 from the CMP and all I can say is "Thank you for one beautiful rifle" :twothumbs: Receiver dates to April 1943 Bolt Oct 1945 Besides the HRA rear site and new walnut wood all other parts appear to be SA someone took real pride in the workmanship they put into keeping it almost original. I must have gotten one of the last ones for sale as they are no longer available sold out came up on the site the same day I ordered so I though for sure with my luck I would not be able to get one and would have to settle for an HR but to my surprise within 30 days FedEx delivered the following. CMP :twothumbs:

My rifle team at the time allowed for me to purchase a competition AR-15 from CMP. By ordering it through the club it was only about $800 for the rifle but Bushmaster's MSRP was $1450.00 for it.
Only prerequisite was to shoot it in competition which I did for a few years.
A close friend of mine just took delivery on his very first CMP rifle just last week.
Steve's M1 was made by H&R. Caliber is 30-06 and this is one fine rifle. The bore of the barrel was beautiful and not a spot of rust anywhere...
The stock had been replaced with birch and stained sort of orange if you can believe it. We brought the rifle over to my place, removed the stock, sanded and re-stained it using a traditional walnut color which looked so much nicer.
The range here is CMP, but, it is inactive. I have asked about ordering through CMP and the reply has always been that they can not do, due to the inactivity.
I tried to get it going but no one was wanting to jump on-board and get it fired up.
I did find, that by joining the American Legion, I could order through those certifications.
Still pending, due to lack of funds on My part. It will happen though.
I have the H&R in 30-06 on order or back order :pinch:
Also I'll post new pix when I'm finished with the Toung Oil finish on the one I received, the wood was really dry and must have been stain only, so I'm now on the 3rd coat I think one more will do it and she's looking mighty fine
For the price these are some fine rifles, and the wait really gets me pumped
I also have some bayonets on order for them, one of each type. I'll post more pix when I receive all the new merchandise.
