Been shooting Ruger 10/22 for a LOT of years, my last one I put at least 25,000 rds thru it or enough to significantly impact the accuracy. I am sure that in those years I cleaned that gun, I am SURE I DID, just cannot ever remember doing so. I shot it for accuracy and if you have ever spent time cleaning out ponds, lakes and rivers of snakes then you know its head shots or nothing. Can I say failure of ANY component: NO! Can I say any issues what so ever: NO! Not in 15 years of use at least.
I am on my 2nd one now, its SS model. Its been tacti-kooled up and looks good in todays AR world. But do I like these AR 22 LR's.
I know nothing other than what I have read about the other 22Lrs. I know my Ruger is one tuff gun, not much plastic or cast metal with screws holding it together.
Anyone with thoughts????

I have owned several 10-22s and I also own a S&W 15-22. My current 10-22 is a walnut stocked rifle with a lot of upgrades. I am not a big fan of tacticooling 10-22s as I prefer to maintain the more traditional style of the rifle. But to each his own. I think everyone should own a 10-22. It is the classic American 22 caliber semi auto rifle.
More recently I bought a S&W 15-22. What a fun gun. AR style controls allow for some level of AR platform training. Yes - plenty of plastic - but look at what Ruger did to the 10-22 trigger group - it's now plastic too.
In the end they are different styles of rifles and it really depends on what a user wants out of a rifle. Of course the simple gunoholic answer is - Buy Both!
I use my 10/22 as a GP snake and small game weapon. It sees rough duty. Its been dropped out of trees, bounced out of trucks, fell in ponds and rivers, does not get clean very often and when it does it more often WD 40 and a paper towel. The results are its a flawless weapon and always has been. My concern is on the crop of AR 22's and what I read is they are plastic and pot metal, not up to the rigors of the outdoors??????
