Wow,.........serious shiOt!

Been going to the doc lately to diagnose my left arm. Goes numb, many days it is about half numb all the time. I have a "congenital fusion" of c5 & c6 with degenerative disc disease at c6-c7.
They are still working on fining where the nerve pinch/damage is.

Sux to get old.........

:I-agree:
That almost sounds to Me like there is something wrong further up, like towards the neck region.
I pray they can get You fixed up.
They do have new disks that can be inserted right in place of the old disk.
I do`nt know how it works, but, l;ooking on the charts in the ortho Docs office it do`nt looks to beee tooo complicated.
Like a caveman could doit. :busted: :sharkey: :rotfl:

Wrench, I have a similar thing. Compounded by Carpal tunnel. Had Carpal Tunnel taken care of in both hands last fall. That gave me feeling in my right hand and the top three fingers of my left. My lower two left fingers still go numb due to degenerative arthritis in my neck vertebrae. Need an MRI to see if surgery would help, but surprisingly, going back to weight lifting has helped quite a bit. I think regular exercise might keep the inflammation under control, or something like that. You are right, getting old sucks, but it beats the alternative.

They tell me the stronger I can keep the muscles the easier they can hold the vertebrae in place and take pressure of the nerves. BUT, if you over do it or exercise while the nerve is pinched you can cause more damage. I've never got a good explanation of when it is safe and when I should back off. Hope that disc replacement stuff gets all figured out, I'll be in line for sure.
Best of luck MrMarty! I sure hope you can get some relief

Thank all of You for the prayers and wel wishes.
Both of My sons had to have this same procedure, not from birth defects but more like defects in not limiting how much We could actually pickup or carry, Mine was`nt from such but rather from two mishaps.
Anyhow, the youngest, He goes to the gym four to five times a week, does martial arts training a couple times a week and back packing is a very enjoyable activity.
The Doc. gives good direction in what to and what not to do during the first six months and probably beyond with each follow up appointment.
I want this to be a very fine success, and so, I will follow the Docs orders to the T and not a bit more or less. My son tells Me that there will be no riding in a vehicle, once I get home, for at least the first two or three weeks, along with many more orders too.
I will post in, what is expected from Me during the recovery, to give Youse guys a headsup.
OK, I need to get off and get horizontal fur a while more.

Surgery was a success, No more pain in the left leg and foot.
Was out of OR about two oclock yesterday, got home about 4:30pm, tired but pain free.
They do`nt want Me setting for any period of time, a lot more laying on My back and walking.
No kinds of activities for three weeks, not even riding in a vehicle. After that I`ll be on limited activity for three months along with some lite Physical therapy, then I will be doing a bit more, but, no stretching or reaching, twisting or bending and all of this is for six months worth.
It will be September before I can actually do much of anything, according to their plans, and, I had better stick with them plans if I want to have a successfull operation.
OK, time to walk a bit then go an lay down some more.
Miss Youse guys and gals.

Thank You Sisco.
So far, now, the area of the incision is hurting a bit more, but still very tolerable. I have`nt had to take any extra of My pain meds at all. My usual, before the back and leg got all flared up was four a day of Tramadol for rheumatoid arthritis. After the flare up I was doing eight.
Now with not having any back pain I think I may be able to cut back to two or maybe three a day. At least I`m hoping that, or maybe quit them all together. That would be even better.
OK, MrMarty out for a while.
