Robinson XCR: An Overlooked Great

With $700 AR15 rifles everywhere, it is hard to sell the American public on more expensive semi-automatic modern sporting rifles no matter how many bells and whistles said rifles may have. As such, the Robinson XCR is a rifle that you do not see too often at the range, and that really is a shame. Our neighbors to the north love them due to their non-restricted status, but shooters here in the USA have never quite warmed up to the rifle. Here at SHOT 2014 is the first time I have been able to play with one for a bit.

The XCR was a competitor in the recent US Military Individual Carbine Competition, and from what I have heard, the soldiers loved the rifle.

Here is the light version, chambered in 5.56 by default but caliber conversions to 6.8 and 7.62×39 are available now:

The rifle handles well and features a non-reciprocating charging handle, familiar AR style controls, and is piston operated.

The rep from Robinson was able to field strip the gun in about 15 seconds too, and this genuinely impressed me (it was “AK” fast).

Robinson is also very NFA friendly, and produces factory SBRs for sale which makes me a happy camper.

Here is the 5.56 version:

Also at the booth was the XCR-M, Robinson’s 7.62×51 rifle. The one on display was an SBR that I imagine throws fireballs into the next county:

I shouldered and manipulated the rifle quite a bit, and to be honest I found it to be very well balanced, at least more so than a SCAR 17 with a similar barrel length:

Alas, my impressions of the Robinson rifles:

Factory SBRs are a great option
Caliber conversions are available now (are you listening, FN and Bushmaster?)
All the features of a modern military style semi auto you should expect
Cleaning should be painless
Switching calibers is incredibly easy
I wish I saw more of these around!

I owned one back in 2007. Robinson, himself, is a prick!
The problem with the XCR is this, it's half AR half AK. It's an abomination, proprietary parts that are hard to come by. It is not all that accurate either, due to the piston drive system.

Did I mention Robinson is a prick?

It would be a possibility if someone wanted a folding stock carbine.
Accuracy would be 3" at 100, or there a bouts

I will do no business with Rob Arms. I would not piss on him if he was on fire.

This came directly, first hand to me from the Russian factory rep, and a friend that used to work for Alex. The Russians cut him off because he did not pay his bills for over 90 days. The reason that Molot got sued by Izmash was because the Molot factory was only licensed to manufacture of the RPK variant. Robinson got them to make an AK version for him to import and they lost the factory for it. This is clearly outlined in the translation of the lawsuit and was in the Russian Arms Industry news. Alex did not drop the Vepr, Molot dropped him. And now Russian American Armory has the import rights.

He did not get tested by SOCOM because he did not include the BFA. But I have heard Armorers from Bragg at other classes we attended refer to him as "That Mother Fucker". His goal was not to make the gun for SOCOM but to get the contract and then license the product out to bigger manufacturers to do it for him. He has a hard time making anything in quantity. The company has not been profitable in several years and the family keeps RA afloat so he stays out of the families primary business. Probably a wise move on their part. But when they do decide to shut him down there is a group of investors waiting in the wings. And they have already extended an offer to discuss the purchase to the other family members, cutting Alex out of the deal altogether. I hope this lawsuit keeps him wrapped up and spending money to the point they can't support the company anymore and someone that can do a decent job gets the company.

This is an old post I saved years ago, a little poking around will confirm everything in it as well as bring back angry feelings from people who will confirm it.

I did a google search on this topic, the man does seem to lack any skill at all in dealing with people, even when it would be to his advantage.
He appears mentally ill to me
