Long Range Shooting Simulator

So I am not sure why it has never occured to me to talk about this here, because I have known about it for years. I am also not sure if this is the correct sub-forum to post this in, as it does indeed have to do with shooting, but no anything specific. (mlotz...help!)

Anyhow, there's this really cool program out there that you can get and install on the very machine that you are using right now to read this forum, and it is a great tool for learning the techniques of long range rifle marksmanship.

It plays like a video game...you are presented a target, you move the reticle of the scope over the target, you press the space bar to fire. It is fun, addictive, and challenging in that respect. It's fun to compete with others to see who can get the best score-just like call of duty.

But here is where this software departs ways from traditional games. It has been developed using Sierra ballistic software as the basis. The reticle you see is mildot, and you have to use the formula to range the target, consult a ballistics card, dial the correct data for the bullet drop, read the wind, consult the wind chart, figure the actual windage, and dial it as well...and it is uncanny how realistic their software is to the real deal.

Yes, there is a lot of math involved...you'll need a calculator and some scratch paper if you want to hit anything-unless you're a mathematical genius. I know you might be thinking..."I have no idea how to do all of that." But that's OK...just click the "classroom" button on the main menu, and turn your brain switch to "sponge" mode...the instructions given in this program as well as the visual aids to help the lessons are bar none- Having been to the Army sniper school and passed, I can honestly say- the lessons taught in this game are far superior to the power point driven instruction I was given by the Army...that right there is reason enough to own this software.

Anyhow, the website for this is www.shooterready.com . It costs about 50 bucks, and you can download it right then or buy a disc copy and have it shipped. If you want to learn the techniques of long range shooting-or if you are a long range shooter who wants a way to keep the brain sharp while away from the range, this is an easy 50 bucks to spend.

NOTE-I don't get any money or anything else from this program...I am just posting this because I really dig it.

Actually I am very good a math as long I can relate the math to reality. X+y-Z= is meaningless to me. But make it apples or $ and I can do it in my head.

This looks like a great program, will be purchasing for sure. Practice will be good for speeding up the total time devoted to getting a firing solution.
