The DOT didn't check my credit till I had been working a month, and then it was JP Morgan that checked before issuing the GSA credit card. I passed the background check before they contacted anyone on the list, my references got questionnaires the week after they passed me! I wonder how these security issues like Snowden keep happening....
I think it all depends on if you qualify and how bad they need you. The firearms instructor job was in Virginia. :usa:
If you want to do A&P work then the only place you will make good bucks in working for the big airlines and then its going to come from overtime. Friend of mine was with AA and he was knocking down about $75k a year with a good chunk in his overtime pay. Oddly he quit after a LOT of years just saying he was tired of the BS...he is the one who opened a welding and fab shop focus on the offroad business. I helped him with his taxes the last year I lived in DFW and he had made $482,000 gross and IIRC walked home with about $80k. Has a 60x80 shop at the end of his driveway. Most of his work is MIG.
What you have to do is focus on something and get in and do it...
After 28 yeas in the aviation industry, military, government and civil, I quit and I am finishing my degree. Aviation sucks for pay, a trained marine or motorcycle tech makes more. Airlines pay a bit better, but layoffs are common, no stability at all.

I left A&P for college for the same reasons. Its called a glamor job, sounds good to everyone...oh I work at Dallas Love Field repairing Jet engines...ohhh you must make big money huh?
Well this is why I come here seeking the experience of others. Thanks for all the input. It would be much easier if folks supposedly in the know just came right out and said as much in the first place. Must be that whole misery loves company thing.
