I'll be checking it out this weekend M. Between overtime and both boys being in football, my time during the week is just about shot.
We are a family of shooters with handguns, rifles, shotguns and pellet guns so I'm looking forward to it.
Shooting our pellet rifles has actually helped both my wife and 10 year old son when it comes to the rifles so they are big on my list of useful tools...
Something like this is good, as all too often it gets lost in time. Bring up a 'bb' air gun and most forums and all but the most knowledgeable will almost laugh you off.
Then post a pic of the bb gun carried by the Lewis & Clark exp. By the same token these are the same folks that also think a .22 LR is also worthless.
So good piece and refreshing to remember the value of some oft looked forms of weaponry.
My first rifle at 7 was a pellet rifle. The gophers and squirrels in my parents yard never had a chance. My next firearms purchase will be a very good pellet rifle.
I find there are many good things about owning air rifles. Skunks and whatnot prowling about always need a little urging to get out and stay out and when they remember the pain of a 600fps pellet pistol shooting them in the ass, they tend to look for scroungings elsewhere.
Fun with the family. We'll set up some of those spinning steel gong targets you get on Amazon and sit at 2 different picnic tables and everyone will shoot an afternoon away which tends to get the pressure off of me when I'm going to the range with the big stuff.
Practice aiming, gaining site picture and taking care of a scope and/or optics. Since I have 3X9 scopes on our air rifles, my sons are learning that banging there scopes DOES do them harm and if you don't take care of them and treat them gently, you can't hit a thing when you need to and re-zeroing every other trip aggravates the crap out of Daddy...lol
My oldest son (10) went to the range with me just last weekend and with a little extra padding in his shoulder, took on the AR10 and was getting solid head shots are 100 yards and was hitting the 10 inch circle targets at 200 even though he is not quite bit enough to be able to settle into a stable position. I even had 3 sandbags under his butt at the bench just so he could gain the target from the benches...
I have always seen merit in owning big and small stuff from fishing equipment, to knives and right down to our firearms so I liked the article and although I prefer the Stoeger X50 over the gamo, these are still some quality rifles he's talking about. Gamo has been around a long time and have done well in this niche.
Good article A.H. and thanks for bringing him in M.
they are also good to practice your point and shoot where you flip a washer in the air then you shoulder and basically point and shoot. I learned that at ol Lost In The Woods
Good article on a very useful weapon. I'd love to hear more specifics on the different models and their features. I'm due for an upgrade in the air rifle dept but not sure who or what to believe on the performance.
