Weakside shooting

Just came back from the range. What a humbling experience. I posted in the 10MOA section for good reason. Shot about 60rounds all offhand weak side at 100 meters(WOW), also some seated and kneeling. Going back on Friday night to repeat. I felt OK shooting offhand but kneeling and seated was difficult (almost impossible). I will have to expend a lot of rounds to get my weak side stronger, it felt like I had done a workout. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Try doing some dry firing with a laser of some sort attached so you can see what part of the process isn't working for you, have someone video you while practicing and review it..... and then shoot, shoot some more, and when you're tired of that shoot some more! :usa:

What JT said about the laser. Watching the dot move as you go through the motions reveals all sorts of information. Video is another great idea, especially if the problem is bad form, you can feed the vid to a monitor you can see yourself in for instant feedback and make corrections on the fly.

Don't let it get to you though, it is called weak side for a reason. I wish I had a quick fix for you but the only real solution is training. I've not been shooting in so long my strong side is likely worse than your weak side.

I'll wager the trigger felt completely alien to your support side trigger finger. Laser and video will help, as JT and Colt said. Dry fire practice is key. You've got years, decades of muscle memory built up with your strong side but very little with your support side. You have to build some muscle memory with it.

As someone who shoots Expert off either shoulder (or did in my younger days), I just to drive the lane graders nuts by switching shoulders all the time based upon my ease of movement.

I cannot give you any real advice other than just practice, but I was afflicted with being right handed but left eyed (meaning my left eye was my strong eye) thus my ability to shoot off either shoulder was done with ease. Mostly a question of training the hands and arms in a non-dominant role. That said the most important thing is to train your eye. Vision is the number 1 driver. We can teach someone sans arms to still be a good shot using prosthesis. What you might want to do is wear an eye patch for some training...

Guys thanks for the good advise, I will be doing some pretty intense training until the match. Going to shoot again now. Will try to shoot every other day until the match. I am sure it will come together. The thing that has me worried is the match director is set on doing some really unorthodox stuff "I will find your weaknesses". If anybody have some really off the wall stuff that I should be practicing please chime in. Basically they have allowed LRF but are going to negate there effectiveness , so every target will have to be milled. I have a old pair of 10X steiner bino's I will be using.

Practice slowly at first...feel what your body is doing while you're doing it. Talk yourself into position and out if you have to. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

This sounds interesting, what kind of match is it? Learn to ignore the pressure from time constraints and don't let yourself get rushed. Just settle in and shoot as fast as you can hit rather than try to fit a given number of shots into a certain amount of time.

Keep your drop chart simple, say 5moa steps. You said your max was 650 so have your 100,350,500,650 (just ballparkin it, actual numbers will be different) done for quick settings that give you holdover room in between. A 10mph full value wind will push you a titch past 5moa at 650, so that's not too bad to compensate for. If your match has you ringing plates instead of trying for groups on paper, you can be accurate enough to score hits and still be quick. Just be comfortable with all your known values like drop and drift and you can spend your time on settling in for the shot.

You got this.

That is all I can think of for now.

Colt here is the thread on another site. forum.snipershide.com/tactical-competiti...gistration-open.html . The drop and drift are not a problem, have dope for them. Also I am using a BDC reticle, and have been practicing with it. I think that it is speeding up my acquisition to fire times. But the true test for it will be the competition and how it works real time.
