While I was working in the Philippines for a company for almost 2 years, I absolutely fell in love with real Cuban Monte Cristo cigars. During one of the big "management mixers" at the 5 star hotel I was in, I met a local club owner who owned, among other things, a membership only cigar club. He GAVE me a membership (worth $1,000.00 bucks) for as long as I was in country and pretty much gave me any cigar I wanted whenever I would go. He even "tossed" me one of those big dark ones (that Castro made famous) from his walk-in humidor once that was good but a little rich for my tastes - an honor just the same though since they sold for $80 bucks a stick...
Nothing like sitting back and enjoying a nice cigar now and again.
I sure do miss those real Cubans sometimes and haven't had the money to buy any from the site I found yet but oh MAN do I stop buy and window shop a lot.
Another member and I collaborated on a part for a gun and if we can get things to come together soon, I may very well be able to get one or two someday to celebrate if all goes well. I'm hoping we can introduce it VERY soon so keep your eyes open guys.
Don't smoke anymore. So, as a junkie on the wagon, I have not touched a cigar in years. I have had my share of Cubans on trips to South America. Years ago I found a Honduran cigar that was stellar. Basically a Monte Cristo, Cuban send, grown in Honduras. Flippin outstanding, all the body and flavor as the Cuban, but just a tad smoother.
I am in the same boat as faawrenchbndr, I used to be a two pack a day man, and I am sure cigars would lead me back. I used to enjoy Manacudas out on Nicaraugua in the old days. Only had one Cuban down in Cabo San Lucas and I don't remember much about that night except I get a smile on my face about what I do remember. Ended up at a bar called "The Laughing Marlin". Anybody ever been there?
I find they are some of the very best I have ever had and I have been a cigar smoker since my dad gave me a box on my 18th birthday. Don't smoke my daily cigar anymore, but got out of the habit while I lived in Scottsdale AZ...hard to sit out on the patio and enjoy a cigar when the temp is over 110 F, hell its so hot out there I did not even need to light them..heat out there just ruined the taste of a cigar no matter how good it was...
