Suppressed hunting question.

Forgive me for this question, I've never hunted (animals) before.

Would it be possible to knock out two deer of the same group if I had a suppressor and used a reduced load within 200 yards?

If it is possible, please let me know of an ideal reduced load that would be effective on deer within 200 yards.

If this is not possible, I give you permission to point and laugh at me now.

Thanks!

It would be possible I,would think even without a reduced load. In 2011 deer season, I had a group of six deer come in within 50 yards of my blind. I shot a six point buck with an unsurpressed 30-06. The other five bounded forty feet and stopped. One doe went over to the fallen buck, sniffed it and went back to feeding. In order not to have them not equate my blind with humans, I waited for 45 minutes for them to leave so I could come out and field dress the buck. If it were feral pigs, that would be another story, you would have to shoot fast to get as many as possible before they spooked. They are much spookier than deer.

Just slow the bullet down to 55, put some headlights on it and a horn and you can shoot em all you want. They won't move an inch...

I've only hunted hog & yote with a suppressor. I don't know if deer is legal with a suppressor down here, not that it would be worth it since flawduh deer aren't much bigger than mid size dogs.

Reducing loads for suppressor use is not something I personally care for. Underloaded .308 starts getting real close to 9mm performance and less than a 30-30. Long, heavy 200+ grn bullets are usually preferred for this but trajectory is like a mortar. A 100yd zero will have you hitting around 30 odd inches low at 200yds.
The reduction in sound can be significant however, and that much of it is fun, but it wears off quick without the performance benefits of a full size rifle to go with it.

 Ohh really? Well the area I can hunt in is heavy forested and hilly. A lot more people hunt with bows and shotguns there than rifles.

Anybody studied what will and will not spook deer? Like a certain decibel level or something?

:P I've made many unintentional but almost successful hunting trips that way.

What bullet weight would you recommend for this by the way?

Well I'm up for some experimenting. Do you believe a 20" barrel with a suppressor with he reduced loads will be able to even cycle my rifle?

First, you shouldn't need 200 yard capacity for eastern whitetail. They are forest animals. I have never shot more than 50 yards. Good woodcraft and stalking skills are more important than distance your rifle can shoot, when it comes to whitetail. Western mule deer are another story. If you are thinking of it as a survival skill, start by practicing during deer season by getting a license. It will take 2 or 3 years to pick up the skills necessary to become a competent hunter, and you will get better the more you hunt. A shotgun slug has a hundred yard range and that is about it unless the bore is rifled. And people successfully use them for whitetail all the time. You will have your supressor if you ever need it, but a whole lot more animal stalking skills..

I would start with the weight for old chrome bumper, grill and quarter panel from a 1984 dodge power wagon and then scale it down from there...

I got three with a 1979 Mazda 626 in one summer. It doesn't count for suppressed hunting though, I never did have a muffler on it!
