How about we do this.....let's get hold of the police reports from Boston and see how many rounds the "highly trained and straight shooting" Boston cops used in the shootout with the two marathon bombers. I'm sure they didn't require over 7 shots in that exchange....right?
The video with the law officer, stacked the deck, so to speak. Both shooters counted rounds and ejected their magazines before the last round was shot., So they didn't have to put the slide back in battery, speeding up their times. Which I doubt would happen in a crisis situation. It is a moot point, because bluntly, more is better in a crisis environment. If I have the ammo in a single magazine to protect myself or my family from a threat, I am less vulnerable than if I have to grab a magazine and replace it in the pistol. Example, how many people have gone to the eight round 1911 magazines, rather than the traditional 7 round ones? Most of us I would bet, just to have that extra round.
