True, I saw the film clip of it.
West German Luftwaffe pilots nicknamed the Lockheed F104G "The Widow maker" because of all the crashes it was involved in.

Johnson did do an aileron roll in the prototype but I don't think the CEO was with him. The suits weren't real happy over that stunt although it proved to be an impressive selling point.
