I don't know how many play video games out there, I find it a good way to relieve Stress when I can't go shoot, but I have noticed Playing Modern Warfare 1 and 2, I always seem to pick a .308 type weapon as my Reserve weapon...Mainly the FAL w/wo an Acog...or the M-14 sniper rifle...I have actually got quite good with the open sights on the FALs...Don't know if could really do what I do on the Game in Real Life (The game is not that easy either)...but it is nice to know that I might...especially with Open Sights...
As my AR-10 was my First Owned AR...I guess it is just natural to grab a.308 in the game...
being they are Prejudice on AR-10s and alike... :pinch:
Just thought I would throw this out there if anyone else has the same issue... :woohoo:

I don't do the video games anymore, but my son does and he has become a heck of a shot. As far as iron sights, I have some other rifles that I also use and practice with regularly that have the basic open and peep sights. When I was 12 and learning to shoot my old 30-06 1917 Enfield, my Dad made me use nothing but the peep sights. I did fine out to 300 yards. So if need be I know I can. My son actually prefers open sights like on an AK, except when we are out to 200+ yards, then he will switch to a scope. It is a good idea not to become dependent on something that can break at the worst possible moment.
My kids and I game together on Saturdays. I know what you mean I tend to gravitate to the larger calibers for there extended ranges, I do this when playing laser tag (extended range rifles), and when playing paintball I always prefer a long barrel. The kids on the other hand prefer short range weapons. I feel that I am geared more toward taking advantage of targets of opportunity and utilizing cover. I always caution them that the game has no carryover to real life, I feel you just develops bad (tactical)habits playing online. The game has progressed and evolved with each release and the weapons continue to be reevaluated each time. I watched a program that took a bunch of game designers to the range with real tier one operators so they could learn more about how the weapons felt and behaved, it looked like a real eye opener for some of the programmers. I take my two sons to the week once a week if I can, this month we are covering stressed accuracy drills with both rifle and pistol. Comments like "I can't hit anything" reassured me that the line between game and range was clear.
Sniper series is where I am at. Sniper Elite and Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 and they are releasing another one this week.
I have all the CoD versions for X 360 box but they are all games that you are in a fire team of some kind with other folks, I am just too much of a lone wolf to enjoy them as much as Sniper where you are all on your own. That said one of the Snipers Ghost Warrior IIRC (not v 2) you get a helper, I usually just shoot him, take his AR 5.56 and now I have a backup for my M21 sniper rifle.
Nothing like like taking that shot on a bad guy and watching his head explode!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Must rememer,be quicker on the draw than My sniperman. :rotfl:
Oh Yeah, why i was in here,I have COD4 for the PC but I am not quick at learning and remembering sequences so that game, for Me,was a total waste of money.I would like to get to learn it but I just can`t seem to get it stacked to where I could actually get even half decent at it.
I can see where them games would shorten reflex time and probably even decrease draw time too which could/would be very beneficial in real world situations.
I do`nt think though, that it is a healthy thing for young minds to be left alone with these games, especially if they are not being taught what "REAL" "reality" IS.Like,I believe a child needs a good o`l fashioned spanking several times in their lives to bring them into what "Reality" really is and what concequences is all about too.
Now days there are just way too many people to condemn a child into ADD or ADHD or whut ever it is called for a child, instead of setting that child down, making them set,and play with two or three toys, get used to it,next time make them set a little longer, eventually they will get over their malady.I know,I have seen it work many times over.Todays society of pboth parents working, single parents that just will not take a few hours a week and make their children "MIND" is why society is like it is today.
Years ago I owned a Winchester, model 70 in the .308 caliber. There was an oldtimer told Me he could work Me up some reloads, well, being young I had no experience with reloads but, also being poor and liking to shoot I was willing to give it a chance.
That Old guy did work me up some loads,I do`nt remember them as being a hot load but boy were those things accurate. Those bullits really turned that rifle into a deadly shooting machine, that and along with the Military`s training,it was a no brainer.LOL
