I ate c-rats too but you must have obtained the "officers ration" if you got peaches AND pound cake in the same box. Normally, for us enlisted dirt pushers, we would have to do some serious trading to have the ingredients to mix up a Bobby Flay Souffle like that so you brass types musta had different picks... :)

I must say I don't miss the c-rats too much but the green eggs from the mermites is a memory I'll always cherish...

LOL you must have me confused with some WPPA, ring knocker, this boy was DRAFTED...I went back in, in '73 as an Officer.

You are right peaches and pound cake not in the same meal, you have hold back that pound cake (stuff in the boot sock which hung on the outside of my ruck, in fact we all carried 2 meals per sock, one sock per outside on the ruck. In case we got pinned down we had some chow.

My fav meal was the 'Ham and Eggs Chopped' with tabasco sauce...but you had to be HARD-FRIGGIN-CORE to adapt to that...

Tobasco sauce to me is like rice to a chinese farmer - just gotta have it.

When I was in Germany, I used to LOVE getting those spiced pork hocks cooked on a slow spit. Take em to the barracks, drown em in tobasco and chow... Eat em to the bone and then wash em down with a nice milk glass of Crown Royal or VO...

Ah the memories...

Yea the memories...not sure of the future of war, will it be more conventional like the past or be based upon terrorism? What I am afraid of is that we are drifting towards a anti-terrorism posture and neglecting the real mission which is to train and prepare to fight war.

Terrorism is like fighting flies at a picnic, you will never win and neither will they.

I think terrorism is the natural course of things when you face an adversary with such overwhelming capabilities like we now have.

Anyone that's looking at us with anger is also thinking "wow, they've got some SERIOUS stuff and all we have is this and these stupid things" and there only real choice, is just to become a serious pain in the ass (forgive my downplay of terrorism here but just stay with me on this) because standing there like the old British soldiers and trading shot for shot is just not gonna cut it.

We've become so powerful, compared to most other countries, that we have forced them into fighting "sort of" the way WE did to antagonize the british only WE didn't kill innocent civilians or women and children (that I am aware of).

I am not saying it is justified but it IS logical when faced with such an overwhelming force.

Look at the countries or groups that don't like us but ARE willing to fight. They have nothing compared to us so they feel they are forced to take on smaller and easier targets because, with absolute certainty, if they were to simply stand and fight, it would be a very short battle. Blending in with civilians from their own countries OR coming in to our country as "innocents" and then striking if and when they can with as much force as they can muster, usually killing themselves in the process, is their only REAL option to bring any attention to their fight, cause or grievance.

Other than China, what other countries could TRULY muster a large enough force and with enough technology and firepower to actually stand up and fight us right now? And yes, this is a real question because off hand, I can't really think of any...

Most countries would be routed in a relatively short span of time unless they did things "run and hide, the Highlander way" so to speak..

China is not prime player or not YET! The big boy on the block will be Russia, but they learned there lesson last time around and are a lot smarter this time...hence they use a lot of actors mostly in the ME.

It was announced today Obammy is cutting our Nukes in half as China/Russia and the rest of the world is adding on.

Between GLBT and women in the combat arms the issues they will cause will significantly reduce our ability to fight on the battlefield...key reason: Unit cohesiveness destroyed by PC thinking.

While China and Russia have no love lost between them I expect them to link up and divvy up the world. The US is so rapidly becoming a bit player it incredible. We are reducing our ability to fight on more than one front...allow me to translate that for you. We will ONLY be able to DEFEND the US, we will lack the ability to be a major threat on the global stage. This will occur before Obama steps down in 2016 and we will lack the funds to rebuild our military as we always have in the past after such debacles as Carter and Clinton.

China/Russia: Russia want Europe and a good chunk of the ME, China will get Africa, AUS, Asia, and that leaves the US. They may split the US. China is hold the debt card and Russia will NEVER forgot Reagan. I see Russia controlling E of the Miss river, China the rest.

China is 5000 years old. I think they will always be a prime player and making pals with them is the only way Russia could really accomplish anything if they wanted to.

Whether we like it or not, America, at only 200+ years old, is the new kid on the block and we're on the verge of getting smacked by the old timers of the planet.
