bad day shooting rant.

First of all, I didn't have much planned, I just wanted to get out and get the burnt powder smell, feel the recoil, just take in the sensations and have fun. It went like this.
I'm about to slap the third mag into the 15 and another vehicle is driving up. I think to myself "cool, wonder if it is someone I met before". It's not. This time it's "tacticool tapco bubba" and his wife "knows it all from reading American handgunner betty". I hold off shooting for a minute as a courtesy so they can get set up. I say howdy and offer to help them set up. They decline the offer and after a little chit chat about the weather, I inform them I'm going to get back at it. I have a couple of pizza boxes set up 100ish yards away and proceed to get rid of this steel cased ammo. I hear them start shooting just after I began. Sounds like .40 and 9, fairly quick pace I think to myself.
At the same time that I see dirt kicking up about 60yds short of my targets, I see out the corner of my eye the both of them making a charge toward the direction of the impacts. DROPPING PISTOLS AS THEY RUN DRY AND DRAWING ANOTHER!!!11 the horror.
I had lost all concern for the rudeness of them shooting at my targets. I wasn't going for groups and didn't care except for the lack of courtesy. The trail of grocks, rugers, and what looked like keltecs, probably 8 pistols between the 2 of them was only overshadowed by the shear stupidity of RUNNING TOWARD MY LINE OF FIRE WHILE I WAS SHOOTING!
I'm just DONE. that's it I'm going home. I'm packing it up as they come back, collecting pistols off the ground and praising each other on speed and mindset. MINDSET. It's like hearing someone read a brochure from a cheesy self defense class out loud. "aint no assailant going to survive that".
It's now that they want to talk to me. Now they see my AR10 laying on the tailgate and so it begins.. "how many AR15's you need"? "you coulda got a good svd and a saiga and money left over for the price of that" "really all you need is a pistol and a shot gun, aint nothin can stand up to that" "them plastic race gun 1911's (talking about my sti) break all the time". I just keep packing up the whole time they are talking and reloading, all I say is yep, really, is that so, oh i didn't know .40 was so powerful, i had no idea that troops in iraq had issues with 5.56, marine snipers really prefer the soviet rifle over their own issued junk? oh wow, 00 buck at a 100 yards really?.... ok have a nice day bye.

But wait it gets better. As I'm heading out, the fuzz rolls in going the other way. My first thought is someone must have reported those 2 yahoos for having too much warrior mindset without a license. The cop chirps his siren and I pull off. He ask if I took down the chain. What chain? He then tells me this road was closed because the area back here is getting developed soon. I inform him I had no idea and would spread the word, yadda yadda, then proceed to tell him there are still 2 people down there shooting, and they are not the safest bunch. So the cop tells me that there is a rifle club a lot closer to where I live, and it has 600m ranges. He gives me general directions and we part ways. Oh great, my shooting spot that let me stretch out to 1000 yards is gone.

Not doing anything else, I go try to find this range. It started off well enough. The club was hosting a prone mid-range match and I'm thinking to myself Woohoo! this might just be worth a membership. So, I'm asking questions and going over the range rules...Hold on.. All rifles must be single loaded...and several similar rules regarding firing rates, weapon "styles" and so fourth. It reads like an Assault Weapons ban crossed with Jim Crow laws the way it says we don't want you here without saying it directly. well poo on that. The senior member I was talking to was friendly and polite and really did act like I would be welcome. My concerns over the rifle rules were met with "join up and bring it to the board at the meetings". I don't know about this one, but I have no intention of single loading my baby.

Hope the rest of you had a better day.

Sorry you had a bad one Colt. Depending on the cost, I would join the range and try to work from the inside as you look for other places to shoot. Better to be a member loading one round at a time than and outsider looking for a place.

Also, it's not like you are one of those "yahooeeys" that is going to join to LEARN how to shoot, you already know - not only how to shoot, but reloading and many things about the art that others in the club, given the right circumstances, could learn from. As you make friends and they all find out what you are made of, making or HOPING to make changes becomes much more possible.

In these old clubs, it is who, AND how many members you know that know YOU are not just another jamoke with a happy trigger finger and more money than brains. It takes time to sway folks but with the right friends made, a few range events with guys who endorse you to others and some solid politicking, who knows, maybe they'll come around.

Until you find another option, trying beats the heck outta just doing nothing.

Glad you got out of your other place when you did too man. Nothin worse than some mook with guns, his girlfriend and a big mouth to ruin a nice day and I'd say you made the right choice going mobile. Sticking around with him yakking and blasting away, even if you just remained quiet and off to the side is a good way NOT to make a friend of an idiot.

Nooks like that take the fun out of shooting for everyone. We get them here too. Some jerk shot up our club built shooting range last year with an SKS or AK from the looks of it. Put bullet holes through the roofs on the shooting station, shot up some treated lumber stacked for further construction. It is used on the honor system, although now we have surrvelience. Sorry about your bad day Colt

A lot of the rules and what happens at a NRA sponsored range are regulated by INSURANCE  :pinch: ya, you guessed it, and who control's that? Look for more changes at your local NRA sponsored shooting ranges with the Management we have. Private ranges are the way to go if you have any choices :usa:

He and his girl are probably planning to assault and rob an automatic teller machine or something and are prepping to engage old Habib head on to drive him and his mop back toward the frosty machine....

Yes, while I was still firing they walked right into my peripheral vision so I stopped shooting. They made it 20-30 yards before running out of pistols -or breath. It was hard to tell, they could have likely had more pistols around the waist and just couldn't reach them. The 2 of them combined were close to half a ton.
I'm honestly still raging a bit over it.

Thunderstorms, incoming fire, acts of vengeful gods, loaded dice, I'm a black hole from which no disaster can escape. You know how people say "dude when TSHTF I'm going to your house".. yeah.. I don't get a lot of that.

Just remember people pay good money to go on Safari just to experience stampeding Hippos. Not to mention ones carrying Glocks and KTecs.
