Sharkey,

Yes, 13fcolt is correct I was not intending to scold you, I was just trying to encourage everyone to try and stop these pretenders. I also agree that it's a waste of time to try and track down all these internet wanabies. Lot of creeps on the internet so it's best just to ignore them and hopefully they will just go away. I was mainly talking about turning in the folks that you know their names through face-to-face contact. At least we can maybe stop them.

My sincere appology.
Jer

I appreciate the apology Bud and throw in a big chunk of respect for doing so and say that I may have misunderstood so no disrespect taken.

One of the failings of the internet, is the flavor of talking with men face to face, of truly knowing what they are about and being able to tell, usually pretty quickly, if they are men of honor or just kids playing man-time.

Unfortunately, it's a game to some which we all run the risk of falling in to as victims. Fortunately though, most of the time, the mooks are pretty easy to spot, every once in a great while though, not so much.

Even at 49 years old, I still learn stuff all the time which is why I have some of the gurus on here probably scratching their heads sometimes saying "really?" but that comes with being new to a particular weapon and new to a forum, even at my age, being "the new kid on the block" is sometimes taken as "being the new KID on the block"...lol Just comes with the territory.

I do like this site however so I'll be around for either a long time or until the zombies attack at which time I'll probably not be posting as often as I'll be a lil busy.

God Bless guys and Happy Veterans Day.
Sharkey

It is crazy what some people will do. What ever happened to telling the truth and your name being your reputation.

Glad you are going to do your part to help this guy's past catch up with him. :whip:

I don't remember much, but I think some where in between "I love you buddy" and "lets start a bar fight" we had convinced ourselves that we single handedly stabilized all of anbar province. I can not hold my liquor like I used too.

Age happens, bro. :rotfl:

A guy claimed to be a former Ranger. The firearms instructor was a former Ranger Medic. I guess there are different Battalions of Rangers like there are Teams of Seals.

Not quite. Each battalion has it's own "personality," if you will, because all three are geographically separated from one another. The BIG difference is "Ranger Qualified" and "Assigned to Ranger Battalion." I was tabbed (Class #06-94), but I never served in a Ranger Battalion. As a bro that was in Battalion once told me, "Bein' tabbed is one thing, but Ranger Battalion is a way of life."

Wow I never thought being in the military was all guts and glory. I was in as an NBC specialist (54E). I tell people I was a Nuclear Biological Chemical specialist and they are all like "Really you must know a lot about special weapons and stuff". I almost laugh. Most of what I did was teach guys how to shower in MOPP gear and wash trucks and tanks with special chemicals. It was actually a great time and I still am friends with a couple guys I went through Basic with. I grew up a lot while I was in.

I got sick of Kansas and Fort Drum was close to where I grew up so I put in for the 10th Mountain. There are some hard training guys! I loved it there but I was at a point where I had to make the decision to stay in 'til I retired or get out. I got out because I was raising a family, went back to school and now I am getting fat and lazy sitting behind a desk.

I am amazed at the guys I know that are in. Dedication, drive, and courage make them a way better soldier than I ever was. I am proud to know them. I wish these posers would get to know real soldiers and tell their stories. They are obviously researching this stuff so why not talk to a real soldier and tell us about them. That I would find amazing. THAT guy I would respect. Some guy tells me he is an Airborne Ranger that did 3 tours in Iraq and killed hundreds of "Hajii's" make me doubt them right away. If they did that and I find out it's true I have the utmost respect and would do anything to make their life better. If I find they are lying, forget it. I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

I can't for the life of me understand these pukes either. It makes me sick to hear about it, but I have to admit...a few times in my life I have had the wonderful opportunity to meet folks who decided to reveal to me that they had been -or still were- snipers when they never really were. I pretty much served them their asses on silver platters on each occasion, and that's a very gratifying experience. There is a very small percentage of folks that have really done any of it and are willing too talk about it. Most of them will only talk about it to those they trust and under certain circumstances, and then there are those who simply won't go there at all. One common thread that I have observed with almost all of them however, is that they usually aren't found working the loading docks at Wal Mart or doing oil changes at Jiffy Lube...most of the special ops type guys-by virtue of their very personality-are geared towards bigger things and beyond average levels of success...so when I meet the guy at the bar who comes in every day and gets falling down drunk, and everyone there knows about his glory days in the SEAL teams...my warning buzzers go off.

Some of these guys in the bar may have been part of my inspiration to be a Ranger, short of that I agree with your assessment's dead on.
I bugged the hell out of my Grandfather for some kind of detail about his combat experience in the Navy. I knew his Destroyer was responsible for numerous kills on both planes and ships and he was a gunner. I finally convinced him that since I may be going in harms way someday myself he owed me the benefit of his experience. He told me about hitting a small vessel at long range and then realizing it was a fishing boat when they got close. It was going down but there were several old men in the water. His officer ordered him to shoot them, he declined because it didn't seem to fit the rules as he understood them, the officer went ahead and shot the fishermen. As a consequence my grandfather spent the next year in the 5 inch gun ammo hold, I later found out this was considered one of the most dangerous and physical jobs on the ship. This was not the kind of story a young recruit was looking for but it is the only combat experience anyone in my family is aware of him sharing. He really didn't know much about the type of service I was headed for but it turned out his story served me very well there. Nearly all his friends had combat experience in WWII and even drunk on a Saturday night about all I remember these heroes saying to each other was things like" Now that was hell over there"
The phonies give it away with their tales of glory every time!

LOLZ. I noticed the old school scroll, very cool.

I have a couple of miltary prints in my office as well as my Division mini-shrine (5 times a day, I roll out my woobie, face Fort Bragg, kneel and pray.) Some of my clients notice these things and spin some pretty incredible stories about their wartime experiences. One fellow claimed to be a Viet Nam POW.

"Oh?" I said, "You were a pilot?"

"No, I was Special Forces."

"That's cool, what group were you in?" I ask

"Uh...101st. We were the first ones in. I really don't like to talk about it."

"Then why did you bring it up?"

"Hey - I'm a 100% disabled veteran."

"Would you mind showing me your ID card, then? Wait, don't bother. Let me guess - you left it at home, right? Or you lost it and haven't got around to getting it replaced." I'm leaning forward across my desk at this point.

"I gotta go. I don't have to take this kind of crap."

"Well, I'm sorry you feel that way. Have a nice day." He stomps out of my office with the boo-boo lip, never to be heard from again.
