tx: You can do many things with the heart grind and make sausage, meatloaf braise , flour and fry, add to chili, tacos any thing that meat can do, and I'm sure you save the tongue too, just boil and skin it

Good call. It's a buck I shot several years ago. I staged the photo tonight and sent it to a buddy and told him I shot it out of his stand at my place.

That a hoyt?

I bet that got him good. staged hunting photos can be as much fun as fake lottery tickets. Not that I know anything about a 28 point albino the size of a horse.

Hey Tx,

Like Akai said, there are many things you can do with them including making a "spetzi" kind of spaghetti sauce mixture you can probably find online which is always good although I've never made one myself.

I found, at least for me, the trick is that when you start slicing it, keep it to 1/4 inch thick, making sure you get the valve flesh outta there cuz that's like chewing on a balloon.

Then I just use flower and seasoned salt on the fillets, have the pan hot and ready with olive oil and fry them VERY quickly. Heart tends to get rubbery if you fry it too long so I just keep em on the heat just long enough to cook em through which isn't long at all sliced thin like that.

Then my boys and I will just sit down and chow em up just like that.

My 9 year old caught a 40lb snapping turtle while we were out looking for "river monsters" a couple of years ago. You should try cleaning and cooking snapping turtle sometime...lol

I've got a photo of him with it but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to post a photo on here...

At the bottom of a post there is an 'Attachments' line. Click the Button "Add File" and browse to the photo you want to upload. Then pick the area in the message you want it to appear and click "Insert"

When you click submit the photo will be uploaded and displayed in the post. You can also upload other attachements that are not photos and they will be listed at the bottom of the post.

Good luck

Oh crap, I never had any idea that's what that was for....derrrr...

Here's my oldest boy with a prize River Monster from RI. It was delicious but oh MAN was it a one shot deal. I'd gut and skin 20 deer again before going through all the fun it takes to clean a damn turtle lemme tell ya. The second pic is just for scale. 39-1/2 pounds. That's about as big as a fresh water snapping turtle gets up around here.
