Stopping power is a size, bullet weight, and speed ratio. Now this arugement goes back a long time. But the best way to put it is the larger the round, the slower it's going, the more knoch down power it has.
I read an interview with the man himself John Browning, where I found I don't remember anymore but it was way before the web,and google. Anyway Mr Browning was explaining that the faster a bullet travles the less shocking carries. So that is why when the police and military wanted a pistol to carry he move away from the .38 to the 45. It's the same with a 9mm it moves fast so it's penatrates the devil hisself, however it carries less shocking/knock down power than a 40 cal or bigger round. I have use the 9mm but only when the gov told me to I have seen what it can do, I have also seen the 45 or even the 40 can do. I like then better, along with many police departments, which is why many drop the 9mm and went with the 40.

Your very right about about one thing 9mm is very good training ammo, and if I had room for more guns on the boat I would get one for the same reason you did, cheaper ammo to just go shoot. But would I carry one into a fight? Only if I had no other choice. I just don't the point in shooting more than I have to put someone down and I have never seen a human go down on one shot from a 9mm. well in the movies maybe. Not many people get to take those golden shots to back of a human head.

I know I got preachy there but the anwaers to these question are not always short.

And I know there is someone who is going to jump and start telling I don't know kaka and you go right ahead it's a free country ( as of this writeing that not always be the case).

I don't everything but I have seen a lot.
Thanks for your time

I believe he was talking about the reliability of the gun, not a discussion of caliber. Glocks are available in all calibers.

So what's the real deal with the 9mm stopping power issue anyhow?

Really?

One of the most long standing arguments out there, 9mm vs 45 acp. Pros and cons to each, waaaaay to many theories and debates about it, all of them convincing. And although I'm a .45 devotee myself, ain't nobody gonna ever say, go ahead, shoot me with a 9mm, it's nothing. Much more important than caliber is do you hit what you aim at. If you do, the intelligently chosen 9mm load gets the job done as well as anything else. Everyone who debates 9mm vs .45 would be better served by spending the time they waste arguing about it,on the range practicing intead.

Wish I could afford to spend all my time on the range or in the woods.
Don't forget about the new people. There could very well be people that have never heard the points.
