Back when I was in High School I had this kid who was in my high school class. He was a quiet kid who kept to himself for the most part, didn't make waves, didn't cause trouble. Six months after I graduated from high school, in 1966, I read in the newspaper that he had been killed in combat in Vietnam. The first one in our class.
Years later, when I made my first visit to the Vietnam War Memorial, I looked his name up. I stood there looking at his name, wondering if anyone took the time to remember what he gave for his country. Since then, Whenever I get to Washington,I go down to the Memorial and look up his name. It is the least I can do for what he gave up. I was there last week, and this time I took a picture. I guess it is my job to make sure at least this one soldier is not forgotten. Thank you Dean for what you gave.
