As of a couple of weeks ago the NRA is letting scopes to be shot across the course. This is an effort to keep the old boys shooting and the sport alive. You can't win the match but if there is enough of people shooting scopes there will be an award section. From what I have seen the numbers of shooters or lack of intrest are dropping. Our local match has not 2 relays in 5 years. MSH
You can compete in F -class matches, any/any matches and regular across the course matches if you run iron sights.
I have shot against many AR 10s, they hold their own.
With that said the sights you will need are expensive as
they are not just a post and apatuer (sp?). For those that dont know David Tubb won the Nationals one year at Camp Perry
Ohio with an AR10 chambered in 6.5x08....ie 260 Rem. He did
have to tweak the gun and back then the AR 10 was so expensive it just wasnt worth it.
These days I will shoot my AR 10 in F class matches and it does pretty good for what it is (tactical rifle).
So for anyone wanting to shoot a match (F class or any/any)
I say go for it, you need good ammo a shooting mat or just
something to lay on and a bipod or a rest of some sort.
For any sight/any rifle you dont use a rest, its prone with
a sling or no sling for that matter.
I think I could write a book on all of this so I will just say go try it out see if its for you ! You will learn alot
and you get to hang with like minded people. I will keep it short but if anyone has questions fire away.
I was thinking you had an AR10T for some reason. Anyway just slap a scope on the carbine and shoot F class or any/any later on once your hooked you could delve into a service rifle. If you really want to see what an ar 10 set up for
across the course check this site.
