New hand guard from MidwayUSA. Very nice.
I am going to need a couple picatiney rubber guards to prevent roughness on the hands. They didn't come with the hand guard.

Check out the LaRue rail clips. They smooth it out without increasing the profile much and come with a couple different cable management style clips. I've been very pleased with mine. I like my surefire light as well, bought a used millenium kit and really like it.
Thx, buddy, I'll check those out.
While the handguard looks "tacticool", I imagine it would be rough on the hand without rail clips.
I like surefire lights, but pricy.
My AR is more for hunting out to maybe
500 yards. Not that I can do that yet as I'm new to the platform.
I do hope for a night scope and thus IR lighting with longer reach.
As you can tell I really am unsure of my build at this point.

one of the better lights for the money is the TLR-1. they have gone up in price since I bought mine but still less than a surefire and just as good. The price increase is due to the c4 led, probably 1/3 brighter than mine with the same battery life.

I got a kit like this put together for $140 on ebay, $80 for the light and $60 for the kit with everything but the light. Most sell higher but if you watch close you'll hit a deal eventually. there is usually a good number of them listed.
One of the main reasons I wanted the whole kit was the IR filter. I don't have any night vision yet but wanted to have something to increase my range when I do get it. They do make LED bulbs for it to extend the run time but that doesn't put out the IR light so I decided to deal with the short battery life. They are pricey but they are also impressive lights!
Sir that looks like it will fit my needs perfectly!!!
Thanks so much for sharing the info.
Have you tried the IR filter with a night device?
I know you mentioned you do not have one yet but was wondering if you might have gotten your hands on one to try out.
If the IR range is out to 100 yards or so its golden.
Poor hog won't know what hit him. LOL
I'm gonna need a bigger smoker.
I found a pretty good reveiw of the light on this link.
This Army grunt gives a high ranking to the equipment.
If it was good for him it will sure as hell be good for hog hunting.
