I have noticed that most scope mounts (rings) are mounted on the rail above the bolt carrier group. Is it alright to have one of the mount brackets mounted above the bolt carrier group and the other on the rail above the barrel or chamber?
A one piece mount like Larue can extend past the receiver fine. Separate rings however can not. The forend is not stable enough to bridge the gap with the scope and the flex will make accuracy suffer and possibly damage the scope.
Ok, I imagined it would mess with accuracy, had no idea it could damage the scope! The rings I have are fine, I was just looking at my S&w M&P 15-.22 and noticed the rings were on two separate rails, this got me thinking and I knew exactly where to go to get a quick and reliable answer! :twothumbs:
