Popping primers

Not sure what crimping has to do with blown primers.(a little like blowing your nose and worrying about what's coming out the other end) Your would have to use one hell of a crimp and the case neck would have split.

I have had blown primers in a AR-15, but it was with questionable brass where the primer pocket was a little too large and I was hand priming the cases. I should have tossed the brass, Now I only use the press for priming cases for a semi-auto and make sure the primers are seated in tighly. Since it was only two cases out of 30, I do not think you have any headspace issues or gun problems.

Well, I shot a bunch (100+) rounds this weekend and I had no chamber or bolt jams but I did have multiple feed failures and it wouldn't take my Nosler reloads at all. It kept on eating the polymer tips at the feed ramp. After weeks and weeks of fussing with it, these last misfeeds are is it's final blow. The rifle has been cleaned up and is going up for sale. I'm now hunting around Houston for an Armalite AR10.

I had the same problem with the once fired winchester and federal brass....... I kept popping primers as i was using 47 grains of Win 748 with Hornaday 165 SSTs, of course this was hot loads and i did back off the charge and i still had the same issue. With that being said, i have since switched to starline brass for hotter loads and i still shoot my newer winchester brass with a lesser charge....Also a sidenote i had a buddy of mine that had this issue with a AR 15.He had bought some used brass and the previous owner had used a pocket uniform tool on his hornaday power trimmer. This we believe made the primer pockets too big for the primers used.

Best of luck and hope you get it resolved

Well, the LAR8 laid it's final straw across my back: would not feed polymer tipped rounds (3 different brands/types + my nosler reloads). 4 days later it is sold. Good shooter or not, I just got sick and tired on having to friggin' debug this thing.

I've now gone 180 degrees and got an 18" barreled DSA FAL. Ugly, unusually loud, not super accurate, but it worked perfectly right off the line.... ok, the sights are wayyyy off, but that I can fix.

Thanks for all your input, gang. It just looks like the AR world isn't for me as I'm now gun-shy on AR10's and I don't want anything to do with a 223. Anyways, I'm not an AR owner anymore. Does that mean I'm kicked outta here? :)

Start a new thread and throw some pics of it up. There's also a couple of very good forums dedicated to the FAL as well. A 16-18" barrel is a good GP barrel length for a .308 and an FAL is stone reliable - excellent choice. If it didn't come eqipped with one, DSA also sells an M1913 receiver rail, which make mounting optics (if you so desire) much easier. And for optics, I'd look at a low power 1-4x or an RDS with 3x magnifier. Have fun shooting it.

Not unless the Boss says so....and as far as I am concerned No you are not kicked out of here.....though we don't have a category for the FAL...there are some that own them....if anyone gives you any crap....
send them MY WAY....  :pinch: and they might be the ones leaving...Just keep the comments to the 10 MOA section for now....unless dealing with reloading and such....
As much as I don't like to suggest anything...Save up and buy A ArmaLite....I shoot poly tips all the time...not a issue....at least with mine....

Ive bought the armalite ar10 not too long ago and it loads the polymer tips fine. Ive got a few beefs with how it shoots, but in my case the rifle is fine but the reloader/shooter needs some work

I have had some primers back out a little with 2nd or 3rd time reloads with Win. and Rem. brass but not had any problems with LC brass , i think its a good bit heavier in the pocket area ? You can get NEW or once fired military brass at Top Brass at www.scharch.com at a good price
