maybe i'm askin a dumb question, but how do you tell the difference between GM match brass and regular federal brass bolth have FC 308 headstamp. i bought some supposedly 1x match brass on GB and they had silver and gold primers lower case and upper case FC and even some marks on the cases from reloading dies(example of modern business practices). any input or help would be great! thanks cap.
I picked up some 308 Hornady nickel plated brass at the range and it does have "MATCH" as part of the stamp. Defninitely worth calling Federal on it. Otherwise it would appear some putz sold you brass shot at a match of some sort and the decided that makes it "Match grade"!
Let us know what the deal on what the head stamp is supposed to be.
so far all i've found is that there's no difference between the two as far as headstamps go, the difference is weight tolerance. what i have found out about fed brass is this:1) The brass is softer than GI.
2) It resizes & trims easier than GI.
3) Primer pockets get loose quickly.
4) Use as light a load as reasonable to extend primer pocket life.
5) Keep the cases separated in groups by how many times they've been fired.
6) So far, I've gotten 4 (total) firings from my Fed brass(the first was a fairly warm 168gr load) - I don't know if they will go another reloading.
for what you spend vrs. what you get, i think i'm gonna switch to lapua.
