muzzel brake removal was created by superbee
i am having a difficult time removing my armalite ar10 muzzel brake can anyone have any input,i dont want to scratch this 10 up thanks :( :( :(

I made a post on how to do this some ways back. The brake is pinned and silver soldered from the bottom and has to be cut off. If you aint got a milling machine don't try it. Armalite's goverment kiss that no one else goes by. There has been a lot of barrels messed up because of it.MSH

Odd, the AR-10 16" upper I had the brake was just screwed on to a crush washer, came right off. Wonder what the variability is

The older ones were pined and silver soldered. The breaks were not to bad, we welder them back up and retaped them and parked them and they was as good as new.MSH

I remember that thread,,,,and I remember what MSH and ArmaLite said bout what to look for...I have a jeweler's eye piece (150x) and could not find any of the things to look for on mine, but I still can't get the dam thing off.....I have been meaning to ask MSH, as to how much force is required to "crack" it loose...Mine does not have the crush washer, but between the flash suppressor and the end of the barrel there is a big washer of some type...I will try to get a good picture of it and post it up....so maybe we can figure this one out....mine was bought in 2008 in may....need some answers as well....

armalite contacted me by e-mail and told me they would take care of it for me if it was legal in my state.
the thing that pisses me off is that one of the reasons i purchased this rifle is so i could do all the work my self.
the hand gaurd is a popular upgrade ,you shouldnt have to jump through hoops to install one.
i do have to say that i am impressed with armalites fast e-mails and phone calls back to me,its a breath of fresh air these days.
i will update info asap.

thanks for the pics,my 10 has the muzzle brake with two large vents on the left and right and an angle back.i wish i would have taken a pic of mine.
i sent mine to armalite to get it removed and to add a flash hider so that i can add a hand gaurd on my own. mark!

I took one off of my buddies bushmaster AR15 that looked just like yours. I had to put an opened end wrench of the exact size(to prevent round off). i really had to torque down on it to get it off. but i think i would get msh's opinion on this one. just thought i would share that.
