Cartridge tumblers for reloading? Which one to buy?
by Moby » Sun Nov 11, 2012 7:54 pm
Howdy fellas,
I'm getting into reloading and want a good long lasting tumbler that will not break the bank.
I also want something that will tumble at least 200 .308 cases.
Any thoughts?
I want to shoot a lot and pay less to do it!

Thanks for pointing that one out. I must have missed it. looks like a good deal.
I have been using it for about 2 years with no issues. I did put a piece of clear plastic tubing on the bolt for the lid. It was scratching the cases. I set mine up with a simple timer, run it for about 2-3 hours. I actually set it on the concrete floor in the basement.

I have the Lyman Turbo 1200
www.midwayusa.com/product/447572/lyman-t...lt?cm_vc=subv1414369
My Father-in law has an older one and has been using it for well over 20 years.. :cowboy:
and I use a small wash tub and a spaghetti strainer to sift the cases...about 5 bucks for the two... :twothumbs:
As for doing 200 cases at a time...unless you have a set up like Zfk...about 50 is all you can really get a one time... :twocents:
BMS
-agree: I have a Lyman 1200 with the bullet coating kit, cost me around $80 from Optics Planet during last years Christmas sale, call them and they may deal with you some. I never counted but I'm sure the big bowl handles 100+ 308 cases easily, possible I'm overloading it but my brass is clean in 2-3 hours top. It does a great job for me and is not as noisy as the tumbler style a friend has. I was also happy to see that it sealed up tight so the room doesn't get all dusty like I've seen in the past. I haven't coated any bullets myself yet but have seen lots of good reviews in that area as well.
Yeah, BMS is right. For 200+ you'll need the the large Dillon Commercial. Ours is dedicated to ICP's, but once in a while we use it for large runs of .308 and 30/06. Rest of the time we have a Lyman and a pair of Frankfort Arsenal's to do the brass. We only use Walnut crush for brass here.
This one might help you if you're just getting started. Its a recommendation, so substitute whatever works for you economically.
A press, RCBS Rock Chucker, Dillon 550B or your choice
(If its RCBS get the Primer Option)
Dies for your caliber
Spray lubricant, Castor Oil (recommended) and case mouth brush
Flash Hole Reamer
Wooden or plastic case block to hold 50 cases
Powder Dispenser (RCBS)
Powder scale, Digital or (recommended) a very long I beam scale
Case mouth Funnel
Powder Trickler
Manual Case Trimmer with collet for your caliber. RCBS or (recommended) the Wilson
Reamer/Champfer for case mouths
Calipers to measure case lengths
Powder and Primers.
Sierra Reloading Manual (Our Preferred)
If you shoot very much you really do need a Case Tumbler.
Dillon or Lyman are the best.
Case tumbler media, Walnut recommended.
For advanced shooters, the "Ballistics" book.
For those interested in beginning projectile casting, the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook
Midway USA has them on Black Friday special...the Lyman Turbo 1200
All Week...$45.99... :twothumbs: Cheaper than I paid for mine...
On Sunday...$41.99,,, ..get them while you can...
