The trouble with Romney (Ban the guns!)

News articles are reintroducing the question: "Is Romney's faith hurting votes?" I suspect less so than his positions on certain issues.

Romney has stated he would have supported the original "Assault" Weapons Ban, he signed the Mass AWB, and supports bans on weapons of "extraordinary lethality" (which means what? (I'm guessing he's talking around .50 cal, which has been used in how many US crimes?)).

As such, Mr. Romney supports blanket deprivation of citizens en masse their rights to arms arguably relevant to maintenance of the security of a free state. In that position he is indistinguishable from Obama. I suggest that and similar positions traditionally held by Democrats do far more harm for Romney amongst the base.

Let him speak for himself:

I haven't decided on my preferred candidate for 2012, but I'm pretty sure it will not be Romney, and it has nothing to do with his religion.

Unless I've missed something. Has anyone seen him repudiate these specific stances in his current run?

Thanks for sharing! Gun control questions have eluded the debates so far. It is always important to know where candidates stand.

I am not real keen on this guy for a lot of reason , but what church he goes to is not one of them.

Well, now that he's the only opposition to Obama, the point is moot. Either one of them might be willing to curtail gun rights if it's politically expedient, but the things Obama seeks to achieve vis-a-vis socialism are far worse than anything I expect from Romney.

I agree, he's a RINO for sure. I hated voting for him but Obama obviously has to go. I voted against Obama, not for Romney

Iowa just sent 12 Ron Paul delegates with 2nd amendment rights at the top of their list, there will be discussion of our position!
There is no illusion of changing nominees now, we're just trying to put an arm lock on him when it comes to our gun rights!
