Impending Legislation and Reloading Repercussions

Hypothetically, if Sen. Feinstein's Bill is ratified, how is that gong to effect us reloaders? I understand there will be a 50% tax on ammunition however, that's a very broad term for us reloaders. Will we see cost hikes on primers, bullets, powder, etc.?

The reason I ask is because I was too young to really follow the 94-04 ban and want to know what I should really stock up on right now as this legislation is getting presidential approval and becoming more of a reality than a fallacy.

If you can afford it, stock up. I would guess they will go after reloading supplies, if not now, eventually. Even if they don't demand for reloading supplies will go through the roof.

I took today to search and spend time online to buy reloading supplies. There is nothing left. You're lucky to find any ANY Varget, primers, etc. The stuff that I did find in the dark corners of the internet were marked up 50-100%. It's getting crazy out there actually, it has been crazy out there!

I expected that would be the case. I am thinking of forming a reloading club. Get a number of people together to buy a progressive press, and pool resources to purchase components, and manufacture rounds.

I believe that most of the damn price gouging going on out there is due to supply and demand issues in a panic market that no one was prepared for guys.

As the year progresses and we really find out what is going on with all of this legislative maneuvering, things will either drop back down if the restrictions aren't too bad OR, ya know, go the other way if they include ammo in there somehow. I mean heck, if gun sales drop off (or stop in many cases) due to a ban, you would think the price of ammo would almost go DOWN due to loss of potential markets and sales that would have reached a peak and from that day on, become steady to slow and it would turn back into a "buyers market" again.

I haven't seen any real restrictions on ammo discussed other than some talk about internet sales that seemed to just pass right by so I'm hoping that once guys have stocked up and companies have caught back up with demand, things will drop back down again for our supplies.

I don't see the high prices and insane demand for all of these items as a long term issue by any means. We're all just a little freaked out right now as is the whole country and since we are all "short on stuff", it's just gonna be tough for a little while and then, well, it'll either go back to normal or we'll all have to go shooting with a LOT less rounds in our bags.

I did manage to find a HELL of a deal on my slugs for my Benelli just the other day at $3.87 per box which leads me to believe it's just the "hot stuff" that is going sky high during the panic.

Heck, I'm still hoping to find some more mags just for my rifle and all I can do is just sit and wait and HOPE I have the money when something becomes available..

That's a GREAT Idea as far as forming a reloading club! I may do that same.

And yes, it is pure panic out there. Some of the local retailers are now showing on their websites that they are not answering their phones due to demand. Not sure how this is all going to pan out but, it is getting intense to a point where I am paying extra for basic materials.

We will see what happens during Jan. 3rd legislative session.

And remember guys, we are only VICTIMS in this entire situation if we don't take part. Make absolutely certain you contact ALL of you politicians at every level of your local and state government by any means possible and express your feelings toward maintaining our 2nd Amendment Rights.

If we lose, let's at LEAST make sure it's not for a lack of firing back...

Fight, fight and fight some more and remember it's not over til the bell rings so keep at it.

Thank goodness the Republicans have the majority in Congress. If Diane Feinstein was Speaker it would be all over Jan 3. Your right Sharkey, fight to protect our rights. :I-agree: the concept of a 50 per cent tax on ammunition, would price it out of most people's reach. Much less all the other restrictions. Contact your Senators and Congressman early and often.

yeah, my plans to re stock my reloading supplies after the holidays is shot. I can't get squat for the prices I can find it, and I had such great plans too. I was going to try out a new bullet and a different powder.
I really wish this would just blow over already.

I honestly think it's gonna take a little while buddy. Since the future of our weapons is in a serious flux state, panic buying, scalping and price gouging slimeballs are gonna be coming out of the woodwork until we actually KNOW what the outcome is.

I've even seen a few guys on a couple of other sites talking about selling their rifles just for the sole purpose of the extremely high market value and hoping to cash in on something they don't really use all that much. (I don't participate in other rifle sites but I have been keeping an eye on the moods in a lot of them lately - everything everywhere is going crazy to say the least)

As long as no one knows what direction anything is going to go in, you can expect a serious panic market for a while here.

Hell, when we had the bad floods here in RI a few years ago, there was a pump company who sold my father (49 year fire chief and STILL going) a pump for more than TWICE the value. He didn't realize it at the time but when he got it to my mother's house, I checked the internet cuz somethin seemed funny and boom, the fact that these jackwagons had just scalped a 49 year fire chief was blatantly clear.

Needless to say, I took a ride back there myself and had a little talk with them and we got it ironed out quietly  however, there is no bottom to how low people will go.

The other side of the coin however is this - with our economy having been so tough for so long, businesses WILL raise some prices and in many cases, because for the first time in a VERY long time, very few people are haggling over prices and just putting out whatever cash it takes for what they want and the best we can hope for is that, due to constant business and good relationships with our dealers, they'll remember that we are the bread and butter guys that have ALWAYS been there for them and they'll stick to good business as compared to the GOUGE business they do with the panickers...

It's gonna be a high wind kinda market for a little while here buddy and all we can do is hang on and keep our eyes peeled for the things we absolutely need rather than spending mass amounts of money on things we just kind of WANT but could skate without buying right now. :(
