I have gotten a lot of great responses to my recent "failure to eject" posts.......I am in the process of getting my AR10 tuned up at the gun smith. To make a long story short.....it appears I ran my gun a little too dry and did not properly break in the gun.....a lot of gray area here.....I will grease the freaking heck out of this gun from now on. Okay.....here is the deal......my gunsmith buddy says he can perform a "reliability" package for my gun.......from what I can tell....most of what would be performed centers around the bolt and changing the gaskets to a special one piece design. Not sure of all the top secret tricks used here. What do my AR10 buddies out there think about this type reliability package. Before anybody goes real negative on this.....my guy does custom police & black water type military customers where the gun "must" work.....no failure to eject BS.......what say you out there in AR 10 land......comments very welcome

My AR-10 came with a one piece gas ring. Armalite sells the McFarland one piece ring at $6.05 each so I wouldn't pay much for that part of the deal. Your type problem seems uncommon for an Armalite from the research I've done but if your confident in your gunsmith then it shouldn't be a problem. Any other specific changes mentioned besides the gas ring? I assume that is the gasket you spoke of.

This is the usual list of work done.
-Extractor upgrade
-Gas tube alingment
-Proper Carrier staking
-Firing pin protrusion check
-Polished carrier bearing surface
-Throat reaming (when necessary)
-Overall inspection
If your rifle has issues and you intend to take it harms way, do it!

Yes.....you are correct sir..........the one piece gasket is suppose th help......not sure all the tune up tricks my guy is going to perform.....he is going to inspect the "play" that I have regarding my bolt actuating in the bolt carrier......he may send back to Armalite....not sure yet. Your point is well taken about the cost on these gaskets......From what he and I have talked about.....this reliability package would cost me at most......$50.

As always Bob........great info. I printed out this list so I can talk intelligently with my gunsmith. See my post above.....he is going to inspect my gun to see if it needs to go back to Armalite......then I might consider the $ 50 reliability package.......we will see.

Hey Bob.........just met with my gun smith guy this afternoon......he showed me personally that my bolt was out of spec.....too loose in the bolt carrier........he is sending my gun back to Armalite......glad to finally pin down what the heck was wrong with my gun. I might have him do the reliability job on it down the road......we will see. Thought I would report back to you on his findings.....you have given me a lot of great info to digest. I just hate to be without the gun for an extended period of time.......in saying that.....I am glad to have the factory make this right.

Wow!
No wonder it was giving you such grief.
Now, I've got to wonder how that got past QC at the Factory?
