Hello to all. New member here. I have had the desire for an AR-10 for a long time. The price has been prohibitive. I must of been a "good boy" this year because my wife gave me the go ahead to get my dream rifle for Christmas. I have ordered a 10A4CBSF, they are out of stock and on backorder. I have waited several years, a few more months wont kill me. I would like to of put a Nightforce or Trijicon on it but it is already a budget buster so I choose a Nikon prostaff 3x9x50 with Leupold prw rings. I have already gained some good info from this forum and look forward to a continuing education on this superb weapon. I am not a complete novice. I am ex Air Force security, so I have spent plenty of time with the AR-10's little brother M16. And I have humped its cousin M60 (she's lots of fun).
Welcome to the site 12stones and congrats on the new rifle :woohoo: post up some pix wehen she comes in always love to see everyones setups and like myself feel free to join in on any topic always looking for opinions and ideas
2nd the welcome!
I hear you, AR-10 is a budget buster but, you won't be sorry.
Even if you do have a problem Armalite stands good.
I recently bought a Redfield Revolution 3-9x50 with the accurange reticle.
It just came in today as a matter of fact.
Before I could even open the packaging, I remembered that one of my hog busting buddies recently lost his scope to a break-in.
Miraculously, he didn't have his AR at the house that day.
It was in his truck.
I'm going to give this scope to him as a Christmas present.
What the heck, it was only $182.
I chose Redfield because, they are designed by Leupold but, built here in the USA by US workers in Oregon.
Reviews seem to indicate that the optics are the clearest of the entry level scopes.
I look forward to seeing pics when it comes in and, again, welcome.
Welcome to the site. You might wanna check some of the larger on-line gun shops, like Bud's Gun Shop. They normally have a pretty good on-hand inventory. You might be able to speed up your purchase plans by a couple of months.
Thanks for the welcomes. I wish I had known about Redfield being made in the USA, I would of went that way. I just went with the Nikon because of positive reviews on the web. The made in the USA would of swayed me to Redfield. I had done a few searches on google for the 10A4CBSF, it doesn't turn up much. I checked buds and some others, it's not out there. I called Armalite and they checked all distributer stock with none found. My dealer was told they have to have 100 orders before they build a run of rifles because they buy barrels in lots of 100. I talked to a customer service rep that said they have individual barrel assemblies for sale that she thought they could build one with. She checked with production and was told it was possible. It will still take up to 60 days. It will probably be the longest 60 days of my life. I will post pics when it shows up.
Greetings....new here too. I have an AR10T that I picked up off of another forum. It's got the 24" Lothar Walther Barrel...it's a tank...but the lower has all the right "stuff"...and I can get a 16" carbine upper to work with this lower...I'm going to call it "good". As with all things AR...once ya get bit with the bug...one leads into 2...3...few more uppers...stocks...BCG...it never ends. These are far worse than my knife addiction of years past.
Keep up posted on the progress of your AR10...and from one noob to another....welcome.
Congrats Mister on the new AR-10, funny how things work I had a Springfield M-14A1 on order the shop called me told me it was in, I walk in to pick it up and there on the wall hung an AR-10A4 carbine I was fondling it when the guy walk out of the back with my gun, He just look me at roll his eyes and said yes we can trade. That was almost 2 years ago and I am still very happy. It's worth the wait man.
Then again I just love guns  Really like exploring all options out there :pinch: just scored a 1903 A3-03 Still in cosmo from the OG hood  what a find post pix when she gets a good bath! any help in getting rid of the cosmo :pinch:
Carburator/brake cleaner works pretty good. Just make sure you give the steel a good coat of lube afterward, the carb cleaner really sucks out all the lube in the pores of the steel.
I know were off the original subject here, so my apoligies! Had the steel figured out so should have been a little more specific, have the old solovet tank (Mineral Spirits) for the steel parts, just didn't know about droping the wood in there! tried the Murphys Wood soap no luck, this stuff has been on the rifle since 1949 guess I'm looking at trying the old steam trick, don't have the steamer though! wonder if the wife's iron with the steamer will work
