At the shooting match yesterday I had my first "Real Malfunction" of my AR-10...
but it really wasn't the Rifle....I think it was the ammo....Prior to this happening, I had a Prime Pop...well sort of...where the firing pin struck...it blew back and scored the pin...I think it happened again....anyway...after firing two rounds, click...no boom...WTF...I tried to eject the third round...the bolt was stuck...I quickly broke the rifle open and tried to pull the BCG out...not happening....Now mind you I was in the middle of a "timed event" in order to get 3 shots off...I had to pull out of the event and go to a "Safe Part of the Range"...to deal with the malfunction....Needless to say...stress can be an asset...I needed to fix this and get back in the game.....
I separated the receivers and lightly "thumped" the BCG..putting the gun back together....I pointed in a safe direction..(straight into the dirt bank) and boom;;; The shell was ejected and then I did a field strip and quick-clean and re-lube and got back into the game...total time less than 5 minutes...but
unfortunately that event had ended but I was in time for the next one....
Had I not got it cleared up...I did Take my M-15, just in case...
It never hurts to have a Back Up.....when shooting a Match..
I might have to give Hornady a Call and see if this problem has surfaced with others.....I am also going to shoot some more of this particular Lot # and see if it happens again.....I really wished I had that brass catcher...I might have able to see if the primer popped...again...
