Hey guys out there! Hopefully if you're reading this, you're with me that the AR10(T) is a great platform for a rifle. I first encountered the AR10(T) in carbine style (16" barrel) rather than the full (24") barrel. It was lightweight (compared to others out there) and the ballistics of this round outperform the 223/5.56 caliber at range. So while trying to decide what I wanted, I bought the carbine (Thanks Brian @ 4 Seasons!) with the intent of setting it up to be a 300 yd. carbine. However, I've run into a few dilemmas, stemming from ammo, to optics, even long range. I'm going to try to break the barrel in when the weather allows me to get out to do so. As far as that goes, I'm going to stick with FMJ rounds, 150 gr. from Federal (American Eagle). Once that's done, I'm going to equip the carbine with a Leupold VX-II 4.5-12x 40 mm AO scope, for a range limit of 300 yards (which is the limit of ranges near me). People have been offering advice for heavier rounds, ultimately going to a 168 gr for best results. As far as I'm concerned, until I start complaining about shooting MOA with the rifle up to 250 yards, I won't complain. Finally, I was thinking about getting the full upper with the full barrel for shooting up to 800 yards in the future. However, I'm anticipating that going with a bolt gun may be the best option for 500-1,000 yards. PHEW! If anyone has any experience with the carbine, it'd be great to hear you. If anyone has advice on the scope, ammo, or the full upper conversion for later, that would also be appreciated. Thanks, keep them in the 10s!
Welcome to the forum, You should have a chrome bore in the carbine so the break in I would think
is very different from a 10t. You can't go wrong with a leupold but there are a lot of options out
there. The night force super sniper seems to be a really popular choice and is 300.00. To get the
best groups out of the gun go with some federal match once it's broke in. The 10t has a 2 stage
trigger in it as well, keep that in mind if you do the switch to a 10t
Thanks for the advice. I actually received those same instructions for the full size as well. My lower is actually stamped as the 10(T), but only in a 16" configuration. The barrels are the same, except in length, according to the gang at Armalite. Again, we'll wait for the weather to break, and the money to become "discretionary" so I can go and get some more ammo. 'Til then, keep them in the 10s!
