Best training I've ever had

Hello all. I am happy to report that the time since my last post has been well spent. Me and about half of the rest of the snipers from my division have just spent the last two weeks putting A WHOLE BUNCH of lead down range during a sniper sustainment training event. We shot M4 carbines with ACOGs out to 800 meters, and M-24/ M-110 sniper weapons systems out to 1,000 meters. We also covered some refreshers on the basics; using the mil dot reticles, target detection, immediate action drills, etc...but the best of it all, and the reason I am posting this- is what the culminating event was.

We loaded up a bus at O'dark-thirty last week (I don't remember what day-I lose track of time in the field.) and headed out to Jacksboro, TX to an 11,000 acre ranch that is home to Spartan Tactical INC. for a five day military sniper course. Spartan Tactical was founded by a man named Jim Smith. Mr. Smith was a Delta Force sniper, and was one of the Delta operators from the now infamous mission in Somolia, forever recorded in the book/movie Black Hawk Down. He was the guy who shot the pig from the helicopter, and was also the guy who survived the first crash and single-handedly held off swarms of pissed off enemy for a long, long time before the Rangers could get to the crash site...The man knows what he is talking about, and it really showed while we were running his course.

I won't really get into the specifics of our course. I don't really know if the package we got was custom tailored for us, and to tell all would be like spoiling a movie for a guy whose never seen it. What I will say is that I have been to a lot of courses run by a lot of "experts" and Jim Smith's course was BY FAR one of the best I've ever seen. These guys put on some training that is second to none, and they have created some scenarios that I have yet to see duplicated anywhere else; This is NOT just another flat range course-you will have to engage targets out to 900+ meters (and perhaps WAY beyond) across valleys, uphill, downhill, against targets that are partially obstructed, and from locations that will require you to shoot from less than desirable positions. This training area will DEFINITELY challenge your ability to read and call wind.

I put this out here, because Spartan doesn't just cater to the military and law enforcement agencies. I would advise you, if you are a shooter that wants to learn the long shots and challenge yourself and your abilities, to check out Spartan Tactical. The prices for the courses are really not that bad as these things go, and they have a multitude of different courses to suit just about any fancy...it's not all just about sniper/long range stuff.
